Please, tell me of an organization like grex that is licated anywhere in
California!  Give me their telnet number please.  *I live in San Fran, so I'd
like to find some people closer to me*

Why don't you start a GrexGate (!?), like the GrexOhio that is starting up?
Sorts of "chapters", chartered by Grex.

        well.com - a long-established conferencing system in SF
  and   river.org - a startup system that I think is also
                    California-based

  Neither is free, however. If you have WWW access, you could also

        http://www.sfgate.com

  a conferencing system run by one of the SF newspapers; it's
  currently free but doesn't plan on staying that way indefinitely.
     Offhand I don't know of any system in California that offers
  free, full-featured access to mail, conferencing, and chat, but
  such a thing might exist.

I saw  http://www.sfgate.com displayed in the San Francisco Chronicle, but
I don't have WWW access.  I will try WELL, as well as RIVER, thanks, and I
guess if its not to expensive, I'll join.
