For those of you who are new - I have just found out about .cflist and what
it can do for you. I'll try to share the basics. This is a list you create
and it will automatically step through conferences for you. All you have to
do is type "n" (for next) at the OK prompt and it will check the conf, bypass
it if nothing new is there, and enter it if there are new items. Here's the
basics:
Type "!edit .cflist"
Enter the conferences you wish to check on a regular basis, one line at a time
with no punctuation. Use all lower case. press enter after each entry.
At the end, type a period and enter to save your list.
Then go back and type "n" at the ok prompt. You will spool through your
conferences with great economy compared to the brute force way I was using.
At the end, if you want to do the "n" command again, you need to type "rewind"
first, this will set your program back to the beginning of your .cflist.
If you have your list and want to modify it:
type "!edit .cflist"
type "1,$p - this will give you the number of lines
type "1" to take you to the first line
press "enter" to step you through line by line
dp = delete a line i = insert a line
- = back up enter = forward
$a = append lines e = reread .cflist as it was initially
1,$p = back to start
to leave the editor and save:
type "1,$p" to check the work
type "w" (enter)
type "q" (enter)
This helped me a lot. It is a summary of items put in by Remmers, Popcorn,
and others. To get more info, type "find '.cflist'" when in the info
conference and then go into those items.
Hope this helps someone. Those of you who are expert in this stuff, please
clarify if I have any goof-ups. Thanks.

If you are more familiar with some editor besides "edit", then I would recommend editing your .cflist with your preferred editor. I have agora near the bottom of my list, to ensure that I see all the other conferences I like first. If I want to got to agora right away, I just type "j agora" instead of "n". .cflist is a very cool picospan feature.
I put agora first and last. Permits a check before signing off.
You can also type "change list" at the Ok: prompt, and you will be able to edit your .cflist file using your default PicoSpan editor.

<sigh> I would agree, Valerie, (& I use "set" myself); but if you do "help set" you find out that it's "the CHANGE (or SET) command". I'm not very clear on which (if any) different things "set" and "change" do. What *is* the "change program" you refer to? (Is that the one that asks questions & then calls chsh & chfn & so on? Hmm. No man, but I see it is indeed that.)

Maybe the !change program needs a change of name to avoid confusion. Hmm, how about "!settings"?

Right. I'd forgotten that.

Eaten by the disk bug?
using vi to edit your .cflist isn't too bad. I do it all the time.
I do too. But then, I do almost all my simple editing jobs with vi.

I'd correct #14 to say: don't try vi for the first time without some basic vi information in front of you *and* an experienced vi user on call. But it's better than emacs ...
Is not!
I have emacs on my ibm box. I bat filed it "evil" Actually Valerie is correct. I would suggest reading her tutorial on vi and at least printing it out so you have a reference to it. It took a lot for me to learn it, But it was worth it.
I'm not sure if this is being printe d as rersponie or not - sorry my delete key is not working How do I becaome a fully validated grex user with interent access please? How much does it cost and what do I need? Thanks
Well, it doesn't have anything at all to do with using .cflist, but to get the answer to your question, type !support at the next Respond-or-pass: or Ok: prompt.
