A couple of questions: 1) How execute a command in lynx? I played around with the homepage and it told me to go back into lynx and type gfile://localhost/u . . .. .etc I could not find any way within lynx to type in a command. Nothing but info and hypertext. Please advise. 2) I have been playing around with telnet and have had some limited success. I am interested in making contact with some web sites, for instance the Internet Tools Summary, as noted in the article "101 best internet sites" in the May PC COMPUTING mag. How do I make contact with URL=http://rpi.edu/internet/guides/decemj/intern et- tools.html? Thanks.

Once you're in Lynx, you can type g (it stands for go) and it will bring up a "URL to open:" prompt. Type in the URL at that prompt, and it shoul work.
Yes, but leave off the URL= part, just http:// and after that.
To execute a Unix command from Lynx, either hit ! and start up
a shell (and type "exit" when you're done), or hit g
and do this:
lynxexec:command
That's how the Lynx Activites Pages (written by yours truly)
work.
mcpoz, if you have further questions about Lynx, you might want to
either send me mail, or keep everything in one item. Creating
items willy-nilly about the same topic is not a great idea.

(But I tend not to use that, because if the site you're trying to access id own, it loads up Lynx, says "Oops, this site is invalid", and promptly drops you out of Lynx. And you get to reload it again.)
I finally figured out that you meant "is down", Rob.
Oops! Yeah, that's what I meant. I was plagued by typoes yesterday.
And today... :)
Hey, I double-checked that response for typoes!!!
Thanks, scg, robh, & Popcorn - I'll try my newfound knowledge and also refrain from "nilly willy."
(Is it typoes or typos?)
(According to my dictionary, it's typos.)
Of *course* it's "typos", just as the singular of "potatoes" is "potatoe".
Is there anywhere I can look to find what environment variables lynx cares about and how it determines where the rc and bookmark files are? I checked the man pages, but they're less informative than the on-line help, neither of which address this issue.
Well, one of those I can answer off the top of my head - the bookmark file is determined in your Options settings, hit "o" to change it. The rc file, I'll have to hunt for.
According the the Lynx help pages, the .lynxrc file is automatically put in the user's home directory. Don't see any way to change this, nor any reason why you'd want to.
Okay, Rob, what's the default name for a bookmark file? I changed mine a long time ago.
It should be lynx_bookmarks.html.

I would like to edit my keymap in the lynx.cfg file as I was told to in lynx-dev but I cant find the file.
