Is it possible to connect with another bulletin board, Perhaps in Arizona? I see there are a few in Tucson, Mesa, etc. which would be nice to contact. Is there a set of instructions somewhere on how to do this? thanks

No problem, just get their Internet domain and type this
at an Ok: prompt:
!telnet sitename.whatever.whatever
(Remember to include the ! to run a Unix command.)
This will connect you to that site. Most Grex users connect
here from another system by using this command:
telnet cyberspace.org
I think most connect here through some kind of gopher or web menu item, which does the telnet command for them, Rob. Marc, if you have their internet address in numeric form, you can also use that to telnet. For example, telnet 152.160.30.1 should do the same as telnet grex.cyberspace.org Chances are that if you have an internet mail address for a user on the system (bozo@somesite.com, say), you can use somesite.com as the address to telnet to. All this (Rob's answer too) assumes they're directly on the net. They may have mail addresses that are routed through some kind of gateway, in which case you're out of luck.
Robert & Dave, thanks a lot for the start. I'll try it and see what happens. One other question - Is there any way other than trial and error to see what features a BBS has?
Re 2 - I know, but it *does* use that command. Re 3 - Um, ask someone who's there? >8) I know of a *very* few BBS's which publish guide books on how to use them, other than that trial and error is the best way to do it. (The most fun, too.)
