I am using the pine mail reader. I understand that it is possible to type a message on your prefered word processer and attach it to you E-Mail. If that is possible please tellme how it can be done.

If you have it as a file here, the command ^R (listed in the menu in pine) can be used to import that file. If you are writing the message on your machine, you have to upload it. If it is a *short* message, and you have a Mac, you can Copy it (as text) and Paste it into the pine messsage window (and maybe edit it, if format gets messed).
Thanks Rane! I am a novice. Is it difficult to export a file to pine. Also how do you get a file here?
File transfer from your computer (or host computer) to grex can be done by many different ways, and which to use depends on your hardware, comm program, and connection. If connected by internet, ftp is the natural choice. If on a dial in, kermit or (say) xmodem are fine. The best approach is to a) read your comm documentation, and b) ask your local guru.
'nother, similar question: when you're mailing a file on pine, is there a provision to enter a "subject?" csh offers a subject: prompt on ordinary mail, , but not when you're sending a file. The use I have in mind is posting a pre- written file to Usenet News via mail (<newsgroup-name>.usenet@decwrl.dec.com). To be successful in such a posting, one must have a "subject," to be used as the title of the posting.

My default reader is picospan, and mail from Picospan has no subject: prompt. Can I do that ~r filename from csh, which does have a subject: prompt?
Yes, enter pine at the Ok: prompt. It has a command menu, so is easy to use. (You can, of course, also enter pine at the csh prompt.)

Hmmm...I just read the mail still in my mail spool with just mail.

I must not have understood the question right but it seems you guys are making this too complicated. Just have the file in your home folder and write the file name where it says attachmnt: <filename> Make sure you have the extension also.

No, You don't need mime. When you recieve the file it will say Attachment 1 of 2. Then you hit V (view) and save the attachment in your files. Then you can just d/l it regular. You only need Mime if you want to see the graphic before you d/l it. Such as looking at the .gif in pine.

I don't think so. I'l check the pine manual, maybe it will say in there.
No, it's not. A mime allows you to view a file in pine. Right now all you can do is save a file into a folder and download. Then look at it. Mime saves a lot of time because you don't have to d/l things you don't want just to see them.
decwrl is NO longer posting to newsgroups, dammit. I'll find the email that I just received ans start an itme in general. This really suckxx
Yes, I just found out the hard way myself. Anyone know of any other mail-to-Usenet gateways?
