I am having problems getting into my mail, mbox, and box files in order to delete old items. I get into the home directory alright, but then when I change directory to mbox, etc, I get an error message. Anyone help?

(try"!mail -f mbox" [without the quotes])
Your mbox & box files aren't directories, so you can't cd into them. You should be able to change to your mail directory, but possibly not within Picospan - it's running suid cfadm (I think), so at some points you may look like you're cfadm rather than yourself, as far as Unix is concerned, & cfadm doesn't have any rights to that dir. If that's what's wrong, you can get into a Unix shell & look at what's in your mail dir.
You can get into mail with pine, and delete whole files (like sent-messages) or just separate messages). I've also done it how davel says, but it is harder to delete separate messages.
(I think that if he has an "mbox", he's using the "mail" program. Is the mbox accessible from pine and/or elm?)
You could also edit mbox with pico, if you're willing to work around the headers, etc.
And remember, everyone, you can now write to the help staff for answers to stuff like this! Just "write help" from a Unix prompt, or "!write help" from the Ok: prompt. If any helpers are one, they'll write back and talk to you.
I think robh means "if any helpers are on..."
Of course. All helpers are one. I am he, as he is me...
You're right - pine will not open mbox. I just tried it. And bubbles is right - pico will open and edit mbox. I just did that.
In pine, I think the command to open a different mailbox is: g When prompted for the filename of the mailbox you want to open, type: ../mbox
