Hello, I have another question. I have an old Mac keyboard without a control key. does anyone know how to get around this problem when using elm or pine? Gratefully...
You assign another key on your computer to control. Command is a choice. How you do this depends on your comm program. Versaterm uses the Keyboard menu.
Gads, what a joke. No control key? Hahahahahahahaha.
An example of Steve Jobs's minimalism. They overcame that in 1986 or 7, but the 1984 machines are so useful that they are still in common use. Fortunately, the lack seems to make very little difference for most everything except connect to non-mac computers via modem, and even there it's a trivial workaround with software, since there are enough other keys.
Thank goodness Jobs didn't try to minimalize my Apple //, and I've still got my control key (where it should be...where the caps lock is on IBM style keyboards). I guess that's another religious war subject...heh.
The early Mac keyboards are the best keyboards for speed typing that I have ever encountered. (Seriously!)

I have no control....key. nor do I have escap ;)
The answer to #12 is that Jill has to look at her software, to see where the Keyboard of Translation menus are - if they are. The one I mentioned - Versasterm - has a box to check in a menu if you want the (Apple) command key to act as a control key.
MacKermit is a free comms package that will run on her machine, and it will map keys also. We can't help any more unless we know what software she is using.
Sorry to take so long to respond. I am using MacKnowledge software. How do I get MacKermit? Also, I am overwhelming by the helpfulness of Grex-ers. Your humble student....
First, look around your MacKnowledge, in a Settings submenu perhaps, for a box to check to says "Use (apple command symbol) as Control". You can download MacKermit from the archives - easily if you have ftp Or, ask any Mac users you know if you could get it from them on diskette.
