I've heard that you can create your own party noises. How do you?

poor orinoco... just go with the flow... :)
<strangles carson>
(that's how!)
Okay. That works (Re#2 compared to the time of Re#1).
vidar was obviously someplace where carson was earlier.
Yeah, I was. I left Pete's around 15:45
no, i mean noises while in !party. everywhere else you can just...<orinoco leaves his sentence hanging>..like i just did.
re 4:
And I wonder how cain knew that...
I don't know how to make party noises either. I'm new to Grex. I just registered. I'm not female, so don't flirt with me. ;) <carson attempts to seduce himself>
<vidar re-produces asexually>
God help us all!!!

/bounce
<other bounces off the ceiling>
/winnie
<other reaches for the honey jar. Yum!>
/dip
<other looks for a swimmin' hole to go skinny dipping in>
/4p
<other pensively ponders the preposterous proposition>
Just a few ideas bouncin' around....
Actually, the last one could be /rodin (:
BTW, I am *really* amused by the /defenestrate noise. where did that bit of
strangeness originate?
Also, /winnie above could be /pooh instead, and /dip could be /huck
I see that /rodin above might replace, rather than supplement /ponder
/resurect
<$0 raises $1 from the dead>
/revive
<$0 comes back from the dead>
/godzilla
<$0 makes electic sounding roars constantly>
/godzilla1
<$0 breaths radio-active death breath on $1>
/godzilla2
<$0 smashes $1 with a large reptillian tail>
/ngodcall
<$0 yells "Odin!">

NONONO!!!! NO EMOTE!!! (actually, emote does sound OK...)
If I understand what John's doing, it would display whatever noises you supplied at the time.
something like if you enter:
/emote burns carson with an icy stare
you'd see:
<davel burns carson with an icy stare>
or enter:
/emote climbs the nearest vine
would produce:
<davel climbs the nearest vine>
etc.
NONONO!!!! NO EMOTE!!! (it takes away from the originality of party...)
I don't understand your objection, carson. Wanna explain?
well, *IF* we were to have /emote, then who would bother learning the party noises? They'd be pretty much obsolete, except for a few of the non-emote noises, like /ngame and /winter. Who wants to party with someone who /emotes all the time? Not I! I have more fun showing other partiers how to use noises and thinking of new noises to ask popcorn to install, not to mention using some of the current noises in ways they probably *weren't* intended to be used. Call me a party freak, call me a purist, but the lack of an /emote seems OK to me. Not that I have much say in the matter... I remember wondering about some of the more carnal noises, and look who uses them now.
<davel tiptoes out of the room>
as long as we have some rather naughty noises:
/piss
<$0 pisses in the parking garage stairwell>
/fuck
<$0 was obviously raised by a naughty wizard> Stolen from KQIII
And a none naughty, yet common rambling noise:
/spank 0
<$0 spanks someone>
/spank 1 <$0 pull's down $1's pants, takes $1 over $O's knee and spanks $1>
Actually, something like emote might be more interesting than people who dump string after string of party noises with little regard to content.
Hmm... I've been in party often and haven't seen anything that kentn describes. I'm wondering if he could clarify. (sorry to turn this into an emote vs. no emote item)

popcorn, what *are* your grounds for objection? C'mon, don't tease! (:
She likes having to enter new party noises?
re #30: you mean your objections don't have to do with "preserving the
character of Grex"? :)
One time I was in party and someone kept responding with party noises and nothing but. It was not a conversation; it was background noise at that point. And I left, and haven't been back. My interpretation of this /emote noise is that it allows some spontaneity in terms of content. That may be a faulty interpretation. At any rate, "canned" noises grow old fast, especially when people use the same ones repeatedly, and also when the content is not quite appropriate to the conversation at hand.
I think I'd get bored as well if someone used the same three noises over and over and didn't do much of anything else, but you'll find that many of the "regulars" on Grex are much more versatile in their noisemaking and conversing to require an emote. Tell ya what, kentn. Every once in a while, run a !pwho to see who's in party. Wait until there are at least three different people in there. Then join party and see if there's an intelligent conversation going on. I didn't like conferencing the first time I tried it, but that didn't keep me from trying it again. Also, just from memory I'd guess that there are over 200 different party noises, with many being added in this very item. Think of it as BASIC or something. :) Try party again. You might like it.
is party ever used to have serious conversations that involve more than a pair of people, or is it mostly for silliness? Nothing against silliness, just looking for a more real-time way to talk to folks than mail or conferences.
Yes, party is sometimes used for serious conversations. The silliness quotient is a lot higher than in the conferences, though. And for what it's worth, I think the noises encourage silliness.
That they do. But isn't that why party orignial existed?
