Grex Inferno Item 3: The Good Times and the Bad.....of Gaming
Entered by eeyore on Sat Jun 30 06:47:11 UTC 2001:

So maybe it doesn't fit the theme exactly (at all), but this has to
be here anyway.

So, what are you playing, who are your characters, what are they doing?

Well, while Jason is recovering (grumpily) in the hospital Alex seems
to be making eyes at his woman Maeve.

Piotr and Gwynne have been up late many nights now doing 'research'
(that's what they're calling it at least).

Faith has discovered the joy of sex and has been spending evenings with
Kol.

Petey is still carrying around a headless bear, though most of the
stuffing seems to be missing.

Robin is just calmly watching over her latest batch of children and
wonders when Roki plans to come home from Liane's.

(And in the background... Chain has been seen around Ann Arbor, and
word is out that he plans to work with a U of M professor, perhaps even
teaching a seminar... The Nephandi seem to be on the move again, the
boy from Isreal is still ducking Margo's radar, much to her
displeasure.)

Dude...now I can keep up with my game, even when I don't have time to talk
to people. :)

And Gwynne and Piotyr have been mostly doing research...really! And no, not
*that* kind of research.....

#3 of 59 by vidar on Wed Jul 4 22:29:21 2001:

Honestly I've been spending more time converting sources from AD&D2E to
D&D3E than I've actually spent playing.

#4 of 59 by bhelliom on Tue Jul 10 14:22:26 2001:

Oh, c'mon, Meg . . . they've got several projects going on . . . and
more than on lab to do them in.

I have to say, it's great that while we're all enthusiastic, and make
plenty of free time to do it, that it hasn't taken over our lives.
Although my mind can wonder towards it when bored.

#5 of 59 by eeyore on Tue Jul 10 15:18:05 2001:

And when not bored, or when two or more of us are in the room together, or....

One of these days I swear I'm going to have a conversation with Greg that
doesn't somehow involve gaming....or else I think he'll deck me. :)

#6 of 59 by bhelliom on Tue Jul 10 16:14:05 2001:

Well, aslong as he has nothing to say :)

#7 of 59 by mooncat on Wed Jul 11 16:28:11 2001:

Let's see... It's nearly June, the Petey-one is almost done with school
(and she couldn't be happier) and is attempting to avoid the trip to
Florida to visit grandparents that a short while ago she was so looking
forward to.

In other news, Gwynne and Piotyr are still at the research, though
given that they've come up with a few answers it would appear that they
really ARE researching, much to everyone's surprise.

Faith has been off visiting her older brother and sister-in-law, but we
expect her any day now. However, due to her absence she did miss
Maeve's fabulous display of 'A Woman Being Attacked by Spirits.'
Speaking of... the attack was quite successful- afterall, they got her
to pay attention to them. However... don't leave steak alone with this
woman, she has a hungry Timber Wolf to keep happy.

Speaking of hungry wolves... Alex and Jason have resorted to peace...
via simply not speaking to each other. Alex ignores Jason anyway, and
Jason (though he'd never admit it) is slightly intimidated by Alex.
Then again, Jason does remember which one of them Maeve is engaged to
and kinda lords it over Alex. Would they admit this was going on? Hell
no.

Chain is still in town, what the hell, is he moving in or something?
Anyhow, he spoke to the intrepid heroine Gwynne who tried the 'if I bat
my eyes and play clueless he'll go away, right?' idea, sadly he didn't.
I think he rather likes Ann Arbor, who knows when he'll leave?

Margo has been incommunicado with the lil Orphan Magies, but she is a
busy woman with so much to do- no time to even drop a note via e-
mail... so sad.

Oh, and has anyone gone looking for Nephandi lately?

More later...

Damn . ..impressive filling in-age in between games, there missy.

<clears throat>

Character named Maeve has started working on it, darnit.

#9 of 59 by eeyore on Thu Jul 12 06:47:56 2001:

My job is to search for the Tekkies....

Intrepid Heroine? I think the reason the eyelash batting didn't work is
because she had never tried it before in her life.

#10 of 59 by bhelliom on Thu Jul 12 19:35:12 2001:

<snorts>

#11 of 59 by vidar on Fri Jul 13 19:37:30 2001:

Devon Alek has managed to get herself a boyfriend now that she's
entered her mid-30's and despite being a facless name in the crowd.

I got a free copy of Diomin last night - it looks really cool.

#12 of 59 by vidar on Sun Jul 15 21:03:05 2001:

I'm getting ready to run a Diomin adventure online. You know, this
item ought to be linked to amalgam, the roleplaying conference.

#13 of 59 by bhelliom on Mon Jul 16 17:28:11 2001:

I dunno . . . we're not necessarily making this a serious item . . .
what is Amalgam like, by the way.

I think one of the bad things about gaming is running into folks that
use it to replace what's missing in their lives. In other words, those
who live it outside of game time. I guess that's why I think I would
not want to play LARP.

#14 of 59 by eeyore on Mon Jul 16 22:17:46 2001:

My problem with LARP is that it sometimes seems to pull people in that
might not *want* to be pulled in. Like innocent bystanders.

#15 of 59 by bhelliom on Tue Jul 17 14:24:26 2001:

<nods> Yeah, that's a whole different level entirely. At least with
tabletop, the "innocent bystanders" or other NPCs are figments of
character creation and imagination. There's no real-life consequences
for what a player does with their character.

#16 of 59 by eeyore on Tue Jul 17 23:57:29 2001:

Except start to dream about their characters, and start enveying them their
love lives, and, and, and....

#17 of 59 by mooncat on Wed Jul 18 20:24:42 2001:

(yeah, tell me about it)

BIG NEWS!! ROKI CAME HOME!!

And there was much rejoicing... well, after people got over the Petey
Crisis...

What was the Petey Crisis you ask? Well, the little miss was lured into
another realm by her avatar, she was gone a couple hours... but when
she came back it was most apparent that wherever she was, well, it had
been more than a few hours there...

So now Gwynne (one of our Intrepid Heroines- yes she is, don't deny it)
has to cope with her suddenly 16 sister. Ah stubborness does run in the
family... Did I mention that Petey has a really odd sense of ethics?
She also has some really bad nightmares, though she's gotten better
about not waking people up because of them...

Maeve hasn't been seen much around the kitchen, but she's recovered
remarkably from her spirit attack. She's currently learning self-
defense, with Faith, from Tall and Scary (Alex) (well, Piotor started
calling him that! It's not my fault!). Jason isn't sure how he feels
about this, so he's not saying much.

Faith is just trying to figure out what's going on, well, that and
recover from having her mind turned to swiss cheese. Kol has been
hanging around the house again, though Gwynne keeps threatening to have
a Talk with him (though apparently the subject changes from time to
time). This time I think it has something to do with seeing a raven fly
in the house, I dunno.

On other fronts, Chain is still hanging around, though he does
disappear from time to time. The Nephandi seem to be back in their
places, save for the young'in from Israel... where'd he go?

#18 of 59 by eeyore on Fri Jul 20 00:49:21 2001:

Hey, Gwynne *SAW* him turn from Raven to Kol. That will be a major part of
the Talk, although she will be hitting on other subjects as well. :)

#19 of 59 by mooncat on Fri Jul 20 14:08:30 2001:

Right... first she has to catch him. ;)

#20 of 59 by eeyore on Sat Jul 21 15:08:20 2001:

Uh, since I'm guessing that he is going to be around the house a bit,
shouldn't be too hard.

#21 of 59 by bhelliom on Mon Jul 23 18:17:02 2001:

Yeah, just make a trail of tin foil balls into your room and corner him.

#22 of 59 by mooncat on Mon Jul 23 18:34:44 2001:

Well see, finding him at the house might not be hard (if Gwynne ever
leaves her room), but pinning him down long enough to talk to- that
might be difficult. <Grins>

And if you're using tinfoil as bait who knows if he'll actually hear
what you're telling him? ;)

#23 of 59 by eeyore on Tue Jul 24 06:44:32 2001:

actually, she' just planning on asking Faith for his phone number.

#24 of 59 by mooncat on Tue Jul 24 15:32:45 2001:

<grins> Well lessee... that might work... Maybe

#25 of 59 by bhelliom on Tue Jul 24 18:47:32 2001:

<snorts> Uh huh . . . Faith's too busy being Faith . . . she's getting
into trouble . . .

#26 of 59 by eeyore on Wed Jul 25 02:39:04 2001:

Or she could ask Robin. That also might work. Or, look at the caller id. :)

#27 of 59 by bhelliom on Fri Jul 27 17:28:45 2001:

<snorts again> Like he'd actually make the mistake of not blocking it?

#28 of 59 by eeyore on Fri Jul 27 19:01:34 2001:

Anney had a point of the fact that caller id doesn't necessarily show cell
calls anyway.

Well, shes onto plan B anyway.\

#29 of 59 by bhelliom on Mon Jul 30 15:18:48 2001:

ROTFL

#30 of 59 by eeyore on Tue Jul 31 02:30:06 2001:

She might have to break down and ask for *gasp* help from Piotyr. Maybe.

#31 of 59 by mooncat on Tue Jul 31 14:46:44 2001:

Asking a boyfriend for help? Is that allowed??

#32 of 59 by eeyore on Wed Aug 1 00:15:15 2001:

I'm not sure. She is usppowed to be SuperWoman and all. But she is still
aware enough of the fact that she probably ought not go out there by herself,
even if she doesn't want to risk anybody else....\

#33 of 59 by mooncat on Wed Aug 1 15:32:11 2001:

She could always try to convince herself that nothing bad could
possibly happen and she's just going to LOOK after all... <grins>

#34 of 59 by bhelliom on Wed Aug 1 17:27:52 2001:

Huh? You're joking, surely?

Natasha has the DUBIOUS honor of being persued by a member of the
technocracy. Something about her runing away from him in the last
three lifetimes they had together, and not letting her do it this
time. He ordered, ORDERED her to meet him in three months in New
Zealand, then threatened to come and get her if she wasn't there . . .
Once again, who started this whole damn thing? Okay, so she's all but
admited she cares, but that's not the point . . . <smirks> she's been
accused of running away from things. Not true at all, I tell ya.

#35 of 59 by mooncat on Wed Aug 1 18:17:51 2001:

<snickers> Oh no... not true at all...

#36 of 59 by eeyore on Wed Aug 1 20:27:06 2001:

Gwynne knows that all she's going to do is look. That's all she wants to do,
and that shouldn't do her any damage at all. But in case, she would like to
have somebody else there. She hasn't gone *THAT* nutso yet!

#37 of 59 by mooncat on Wed Aug 1 21:13:53 2001:

You sure?

#38 of 59 by eeyore on Thu Aug 2 00:31:16 2001:

No, why? :)

#39 of 59 by mooncat on Thu Aug 2 16:06:38 2001:

Just asking. <grins>

So, recently Lil Miss Claire took a curse off her boyfriend, Chris, the
curse's existence derailing her from noticing that he said that he had
been shot three times in three months- the Lil Miss only knows about
two occasions...

That and her kidnapping wasn't too traumatic, she didn't really know
she had been kidnapped till it was all over. Though she's rather amused
to know she's worth $2,000,000.

Oh and she needs a new hobby... Learning to drive like a race car
driver was good... but she doesn't have a good car to race in. She and
I think this situation needs to change. So Claire will become a car
geek for a little while. <grins>
