To better understand who we're conferencing with here, please tell us about yourself. What are you interested in? What do you do in your spare time? What drew you to Grex, and to this conference? What part of the world do you live in? What else should we know about you?

I'm Steve. I have too many interests to list, but the main things
I spend time doing are playing with computers, biking, writing, and
teaching. I've been racing bikes for three years, Grexing for two years,
writing for school newspapers for four years, and teaching middle school
students for a little over a year. I also work as a "messenger" at the
Population Studies Center at the University of Michigan, although a lot of
the stuff I do isn't really delivering messages. I live in Ann Arbor,
which is where Grex is.
Bike racing is the one thing I do that is competative. Most of
the time I really don't like competition, since I think a lot more can be
done if people are cooperating. People working together get a lot more
done than people working against eachother, I think. Still, despite all
the competition, bike racing does require a lot of working together, since
people do a lot better if they have help from teammates. Actually, I
haven't been doing enough riding this year, since I've been busy with
other things. I've been doing some racing when I've been feeling in good
enough shape, but I'm not doing nearly as well as I was last year, when
(the highlight of my racing career) I went to Nationals and got 41st in
the country in the 15-16 men's road race.
I write for The Communicator, which is the school newspaper at
Community High School in Ann Arbor, where I'm a senior. Last year I
mostly covered the school board, and will be doing that again this year if
I can find the time to go sit through their long boring meetings.
Actually, when you cut through the boring stuff, some rather interesting
things can happen at school board meetings, and that's what makes them
worth writing about. I hope my writing makes students more aware of the
decisions that are being made affecting them, so they can do something
about things they don't like.
Teaching is the thing I do that I like the most. Currently, I'm
advisor to a cschool newspaper at Webber Middle School in Detroit. It's
really fun to go in there and help people write things, and just great to
be able to see that they're learning something from it. Teaching middle
school is what I want to do professionally later in life.
I'm Vishy, Drew, Andrew, The Bringer-of-Fish. I like. . . uh... i don't like people that do the ... things like . . .
Ok. I want to change my fullname but that thing is still broken. I somehow find a need on grex to make my lines really short. I guess that's because I can't ever think of much to say. By the way, I'm just doing this now, cuz carson is in party with me and I want to annoy him...
Ok. I'm andrew tillinghast. I'm 13 years old and I go to Tappan Middle School. I don't like people who don't like me because I'm young. I like skating (in- line) a lot. I'm not as good as most of my friends, but that's just because I'm a total weakling. I like to write poetry, and draw stuff... I like Nirvana a lot... Well ... lesse. Some people (especially those at my school) would say I'm strange. I mean, I guess that's expected when you continually dye, shave, cut, pierce, and dress differently from most other people.
Ok, I be alex. I like punk rock. People might think that because of that they should feel threatened. Punk just has a bum rap.
Sorry bout that.
Punks are just independant kids (AKA-brats)
I like to read a lot. Especially beat people (Kerouac, Ginsburg, Bur-
roughs) I think I would like to live a beat life. Travel around the country,
listen to a lot of jazz. Philosiphize with my friends, that would be cool.
I'm a struggling musician (If you could call it that. I know people
who don't consider what I do music) I'm in a band, but we're a new genre of
music, and no one has quite gotten used to theintensity of it yet around here
alas, we get no gigs. We do have a tape out though, but its not selling.
What else about myself? I have low self esteem, but that goes with
being a teenager nowadays. Oh yeah, I'm putting out an independant publicat-
ion as fast as I can get it out. Its been some sort of project of mine over
the summe.
er...summer.
Oh yeah. I like The Beats too
I'm Anne, a sophomore at U of M. I came to Grex cause Kami told me to, and liked it so much that I stayed, started my own item in the old edition of this conference, and now sunny and I have Oathbound. Oh, I'm 19 years old, majoring in history and English. I'm fearfully awaiting my phone bill (which should be large) and trying to figure out how many times I can call Canada- and still keep the bill length down to a reasonable ammount. <sigh>
what's in Canada besides hockey?
i am megan heberlein, a freshman at eastern michigan university, and the original smart-ass. i listen to a lot of pink floyd, rush, yes, and the like. i have no life due to full time work and school. i read when i get the time, and grex then also. i will hopefully be switching to um or msu next year, so that i can major in landscape architecture. now if i can only get over my alergy of plants....
I'm Gerund, and I'm just your average person.
like the son by (?) john hiatt "ordinary, average, guy!"
My real name is Craig Ludwiczak. I put "Peanut" at the end of my name because an annoying little kid in me helth class lat year gave it to me. I like to Grex because I can talk to people without them seeing what I look like, which is really awesome. I like to take long bike rides to help clear my mind, and later i life I hope to be a horror novelist. mainly, I just sit on my butt and listen to music and read an occasional Dean R. Koontz novel. By the way, I'm a sophomore at Alpena High School. Alpena is a little hole in the ground in northern Michigan if you are wondering.
re #9 - carson- Jason is in Canada
Yeah, vish, you have to like Beat people, your related to Julia.
I'm Sara, and I'm really lousy at describing myself.
I'm Dan, and I forget if I described myself or not, and I'm too lazy to look.
I'm Carson. I'm currently a FW here. I'm only 19, but I feel like I'm going on 30. I waffle between friendliness and antagonism, depending on my mood and my social life. This is my last week at my primary job. I haven't found a new job yet, but I haven't really needed to look for one yet. Instead, I'm looking forward to a month off. I'm planning to go see and do all the things I wish I'd had time for in high school now while I still can. I've lived on my own twice now. The first time was a miserable but formative experiment. It's very humbling to move back in with one's parents on one's 18th birthday. Fortunately, I've learned from that experience, and am doing much better now. I'm both more financially aware and more socially adept. To put it simply, I'm a better person now. I helped come up with the concept of the InBetween conference, and was a FW when the first version began in late January. Along with Steve, my partner in binaries, we've guided the conference through a name change and a restart, not to mention endless drift and sporadic flaming. I also helped develop the Scruples conference, and currently FW that conference with Greg (canis) and Justin (jwp), although I'm planning to retire from that duty soon. I've recently become a FW of melvin and will soon be a co-FW of IQ with Zack (ziggy). I'm planning to restart my educational career at Washtenaw Community College this winter, and plan to "transfer" to the University of Evansville in the fall. My studies will be in the area of political science and foreign language (Spanish and French). My current thing in life is to live each day as it comes, moving closer, yet patiently towards the goals I've set for myself. I also try to learn something from everything that I do and observe, and to remember that which I had learned before. I hope to use this conference as a guide and as a support. I think that, as a conference, InBetween will attract more people who are closer to childhood than adulthood, but I don't think that translates directly to unintelligent and immature conversation. I'd like to see more people who have already completed the transition to share their experiences here, and for that reason I try to link items here every once in a while. Growing up is a lot like gymnastics. It's an individual effort, but there's a lot of team support. I hope that you all can find that here. Go team go. ;)
i am impressed! i think that you deffinately win the most comprehensive bio award!
uh, wow...
that was sorta my opinion...
I'm going to describe myself again. I'm alex. I'm the same alex I was a few weeks ago. We're all empty, and we'll all keep on being positive and negative forces after we're dead. Thank you.
yup. i'm still meg.
i do believe I am still anne, I am rather ill at the moment, but still Anne
B-O-R-E sorry. I'm drifting.
Hello. I am greg. I am me. There aren't a whole lot of other words to
describe me, 'cuz I haven't invented them yet. I am unique. The closest
person to being like me is probably dang, and we get in arguments all the
time because we're so different. Anyway, at various times I can be an
obnoxiously intelligent student, a decent trumpet player, a lazy teenager,
a sensitive and caring friend, a rabid man-eating football player, an even
more rabid and man-eating wrestler, a hopelessly confused student, and a
person too weird to be around for long. <flem takes huge breath> I like
some aspects of me better than others, and I am those aspects more often
than not, I think.
I plan to go to the U of M next year, where I will study Computer
Science among other things, including my one great intellectual love: music.
I am Catholic, yet can keep an open mind (yes folks, it is possible).
Physically, I am 6'0", 220lb, brown, blue, Cauc, M, etc.
Finally, if you have any questions at all, ask and ye shall receive an
answer, 'cuz one of the tenets of my personal philosophy is that if I keep
no secrets, I can't be embarrassed by them. So I tell everyone everything.
Well, that's all for now.
Catholic and an openmind huh? cool, I now know two!
(He's not telling the truth. We argue because we're so similar)
the two of you are not similar but not different...there is really no way to describe it.
Hello, I'm Eric R. Bassey. I'm fast approaching my 25th birthday (14 Nov.).
I work as a cook at the Whole Foods Market in Ann Arbor, and in addition I'm
staff Assistant Technical Director (volunteer) at Performance Network of Ann
Arbor, a small non-profit theatre specializing in original works by mostly
local and regional artists in theatre, dance, multimedia, and occasionally
music.
I went to Roeper City and Country School in Birmingham/Bloomfield Hills
for nearly all of my pre-college schooling. I attended Vassar College, in
Poughkeepsie, New York, but left after a couple of years.
I have lived in the suburbs of Detroit, Bar Harbor, Maine, the City of
Detroit, and Ann Arbor. I have traveled around the east coast fairly
extensively, been to Japan briefly, been west of the Mississippi for two weeks,
and really want to tour the west coast!
I usually drive a 1978 Kawasaki KZ1000 LTD motorcycle, but can
occasionally be seen driving my white 1986 Ford LTD (automobile). My bike has
the "Kawasaki" logo on the tank upside down, so if you see a bike fitting that
description, you'll know it's me.
I am intensely interested in issues of civil liberties, free speech and
free expression, and personal responsibility. I tend to align with the
Libertarian ethic, but I fear the logical extremes of their approach to
government. Essentially, without a fully educated population, the Libertarian
style of government would doom us all. However, putting a few of them into
office right about now might shake things up enough to get us back on a
reasonable track.
I'm single (but involved), 5'8", blue eyes, brown hair, 160#. My hair
is mostly short with a long tail at the back, usually braided. I love all
kinds of food, but I tend to prefer to eat healthier foods (most of the time,
not all). I very rarely watch TV, and as a result am not in touch with many
aspects of popular culture influenced by it. I like some shows, but am
extremely turned off by the vegetative state into which the box puts me when
I am in its presence (unless I exert tremendous concentrative effort).
I am a news and information junkie, and I get the bulk of my news from
National Public Radio's Morning Edition and All Things Considered shows. I
also pick up an occasional newspaper, but mostly to read the comics and skim
headlines, since there is rarely any additional information of general value
beyond the headers.
I am also enamoured of technological advances and the social
possibilities they present, having been an avid reader of science fiction and
non-fiction for many years.
I like haunting music, climbing, camping, swimming, biking (motor and
non-) and most other outdoor activities. I like getting dressed up in nice
clothes, but on infrequent occasions. I like to tinker and fix mechanical
things, but not usually big engine things.
I hate writing, but find it much more tolerable through the use of the
computer. In fact, this is the most extensive self description I have ever
written, and I'm kind of pleased to have found this occasion to produce it.
Thanks!
i'm impressed! i'm impressed!
Welcome back, Eric!
Finding myself in a most bizarre place, I scream, and run for the door.
Eric, I'm very impressed, I think that's the longest bio yet! hello again! .,
Bio- Ok, i'm writing the book.... it's due pothumously.
i hate bios. i'm never writing one.
This is SPYDER and I'm a freshman at UM-Duluth. I'm here to study Graphic Design and get away from my parents. They own a resort in northern Wis. and are too very messedd up people who over anaylize everything in the world and ho There only hope is I turn out 1/2 as good as my older sister...who is the most perfect person in the whole world. IBack to my self. I know nothing!!!!!I walk around in a total daze not knowing what to do next. In high School I did everything . Every club ...every thing I could. I had a small but close group of friends and was OK with that. I was never great in making friends, but I( always had a few and builton that But college is different I know only a dozen people here and it's almost November. I only know two phone numbers here and one's mine. I don't know how to make friends. the last time I tried to make friends was freshman year in high school And that year I didn't make many friends. I don't know what to say to people I only know I'm a fool and don't know any thing. I just wish I could go back to high school and live my life there. If I can give any advise to you guys on the net who are still in High school ...live every day to it's fullest. you will never feel so free and carefree and responcibleless again Please be happy where you are and don't think a bout tommarow couse it will never come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!live for the day
Hi Scott, welcome to Grex! When you say UM do you mean University of Minnesota? That could get confusing because Ann Arbor, home of Grex, is also home to its own UM, the University of Michigan. In response to your question in a previous item, we have lots of people here on the UM campus (me, for example), but on a different UM campus. I'm not sure whether we have anybody here on the UM campus you were talking about.
now that i know which um he's talking about, i see your point. to my knowledge, i dona't anyone at u of minisota, but i don;'t know much...
