Grex Inbetween Item 19: What is the music of choice for your average inbetweener?
Entered by face on Thu Jan 12 04:20:25 UTC 1995:

So what are all you inbetweeners listening to in terms of music these days?
Is it called alternative? Or is it punk now? Who cares? What bands/music
are you listening to?
Lately, I've been listening to a lot of japanese bands, the Boredoms,
Merzbow, CCCC, Incapacitants, the Ruins, real strange stuff. I've also been
getting a lot into the Bassholes, a blues band from ohio, and I've been list-
ening to a lot of motown, and Tom Waits...
*and if you promise not to tell anyone...I have a Guy Lombardo record I listen
to a lot*
So what are you listening to?

#2 of 55 by carson on Thu Jan 12 17:12:29 1995:

of late, I've been listening to:

ICP, Stereo MCs, Suzanne Vega, Isis, X-Clan, Soho, Public Enemy, The Cure,
St. Etienne, NWA, The DOC, George Michael, L7, Nirvana, and Type O Negative.

That's limiting myself to counting albums/singles I've listened to in the
past two weeks. I've also been listening to mix tapes I made 2-3 years ago.

Oh, yeah. I guess I'm also listening to Eazy-E and 3rd Bass.

#5 of 55 by scg on Fri Jan 13 03:26:28 1995:

I generally listen to whatever WIQB is playing. I buy CDs occasionally,
but not too often.

#6 of 55 by lynne on Fri Jan 13 04:15:58 1995:

I listen to whatever's on the radio <mix station>, whatever my roommate
is playing <which can get kinda scary--she's generally FAR too cheeerful>
or whatever CD I happened to lleave last in the player. Or I llisten
to my revenge ;)

#7 of 55 by other on Fri Jan 13 06:03:36 1995:

Frank Pahl, Only a Mother, Tracy Lee Komarmy, Dick Siegel, Malcolm Tulip,
Whitley Setrakian and Sherri Kane, Mr. B and whatever is on 89X.

#8 of 55 by eeyore on Fri Jan 13 14:37:37 1995:

is it the same air supply from the 80's? if so, good stuff!
i love 80's music!!!!

other: have you listened to madcat and kane? (or is madcat setrakian?) good
stuff....saw a concert of theirs last summer.

#9 of 55 by carson on Fri Jan 13 18:17:16 1995:

Malcolm Tulip does music?!?

#10 of 55 by other on Sat Jan 14 06:36:50 1995:

Peter "Madcat" Ruth is Sherri Kane's usual musical partner, and I have not
heard them perform.
Malcolm Tulip may not have any musical recordings out, but he did sing at
Raise the Roof: a beautiful little ditty which goes, "If you're feeling glum,
stick a finger up your bum, and the world's a hap hap happier place..."
We watched the video of the show just before i entered that response.

#11 of 55 by carson on Sat Jan 14 12:31:01 1995:

wow. I admit to being mostly familiar with Mr. Tulip's directing, via
Community High School.

#12 of 55 by other on Sat Jan 14 16:05:32 1995:

He's amazing! Ask him sometime about "Eine Soiree en la Metamortue de Enrique
Miasmo." (An Evening in the Death of Enrique Miasmo) It's not an actual
translation, as the title is truly nonsensical, and supposed to sound like it
*might* make sense.

#13 of 55 by face on Sun Jan 15 08:50:48 1995:

I have also been mastering lots of lab lob otomy tapes lately, which is my
band, so I'm really tired of us.

#14 of 55 by treelawn on Wed Jan 18 07:29:01 1995:

Excuse me for living, but I like NIN
an 89.1
And once in awhile, maybe 89x and WIQB
Oh, and can't ferget WCBN, which I probably listen to the most

#15 of 55 by eeyore on Wed Jan 18 14:08:40 1995:

i listen to all of those but cbn....but the rest are good...including
nin!

#16 of 55 by face on Wed Jan 18 22:00:09 1995:

See, he's saying excuse me for living because I have a real problem with NIN.
But that's just a problem I'm gonna have to deal with.

#17 of 55 by scg on Wed Jan 18 23:49:41 1995:

I'm listenting to Blue Vinyl's "9:03" CD right now. Good stuff.

#18 of 55 by face on Thu Jan 19 02:20:55 1995:

Don't get me started on that.

#19 of 55 by lynne on Thu Jan 19 06:33:22 1995:

#21 of 55 by face on Fri Jan 20 00:24:51 1995:

Blue Vinyl promo shot. Hahahahahahah...we are funnier than heck.,

#22 of 55 by scg on Fri Jan 20 00:32:23 1995:

Parodying Blue Vinyl? Maybe those guys are making it big.

#23 of 55 by face on Sat Jan 21 23:22:42 1995:

No, we just make fun of anything that moves.

#24 of 55 by canis on Sat Jan 28 20:23:36 1995:

Well I've listened to just about every type of music under the sun and loved
it all.... Music is. Thats all, and if you look at all the top 10s for '94
you'll prbably find the biggest diversity you've ever seen. From punks
(Greenday, and I'm not inviting argument) to monk (yeah remeber CHANT) to
anyone....

#25 of 55 by face on Sun Jan 29 18:07:42 1995:

Cool...

#26 of 55 by spyder on Mon Jan 30 06:49:11 1995:

for my self I REALLY enjoy country, I know must of you think it sucks
but I really ..connect with it
it is mostly real poeople who are living a live that is real,
not some one bitching about the fact they should die cause
liffe sucks or all that shit.. they dont have blue, purple or green hair
they are just REAL
but I also like some of the top 40 stuff. Sona DaDA, Shaggy, soul asylum

... don't hate me cause I like country.... plus I ,at one time , hated it

#27 of 55 by lynne on Wed Feb 1 20:45:07 1995:

lately, I've been doing semi-heavy rock and *lots* of incredibly sappy love
songs :)
Am I the only one who loves the song "No One Is to Blame"?

#28 of 55 by eeyore on Thu Feb 2 13:47:06 1995:

i have loved that song ever since it came out, but i have no clue where to find
it on an album...which is why i'm taping it when i get down there. :)

#29 of 55 by carson on Fri Feb 3 18:21:27 1995:

isn't that a Wang Chung song? is that the actual title?

#30 of 55 by lynne on Mon Feb 6 20:04:22 1995:

The one we're talkinga bout is by HOward Jones, and my roommate has it, I'm
not sure if she has the original but I could probably find out where she got
it from...

#35 of 55 by abchan on Thu Oct 5 00:11:37 1995:

I listen to all sorts of weird stuff... some English, some French,
some Cantonese, I basically find stuff I like and dub it onto a tape
for me.

#36 of 55 by eeyore on Thu Oct 5 15:32:10 1995:

i love doing that!!!! but it drives my boss buggy to listen to my tape
that had meatloaf followed by billie holliday! :)

#37 of 55 by abchan on Fri Oct 6 00:40:12 1995:

You should see the weird looks I get from people walking by in the
hallways :) it's kinda fun to pretend to be even weirder than you really
are sometimes... although my friends tell me I'm weird enough that
it's not necessary.

#38 of 55 by eskarina on Mon Jan 1 08:22:00 1996:

<esk oins flem behind the cello>
