Grex Homme Item 1: Welcome "Homme"
Entered by brighn on Thu Aug 25 03:38:33 UTC 1994:

Welcome to Homme, the men's conference. The purpose of this conference
is to provide a place to discuss issues which are of relevance to men.
Although topics may range from the serious to the perversely silly, as
with most Grex conferences, it is my hope that we can develop it into
a conference where we can talk about serious issues comfortably. Also,
please avoid unnecessarily misogynist (and misandrist) comments. All
are welcome to post and discuss.

Item is frozen

                NOT!!!

#5 of 132 by ryan1 on Tue Sep 27 20:09:54 1994:

Who wants this item to be frozen?
/.

#6 of 132 by brighn on Wed Sep 28 04:48:10 1994:

Why? We can't freeze the welcome item; wouldn't be traditional.
It just ain't right, is all.

#7 of 132 by jshafer on Wed Sep 28 04:54:44 1994:

I agree with brighn. What good is a welcome item if you can't
contribute to its drift?

#8 of 132 by ryan1 on Fri Sep 30 00:40:27 1994:

Oh come on. I was just having a little fun. Can't you take a joke?

#9 of 132 by ryan1 on Fri Sep 30 19:09:32 1994:

But it would be unique to freez a welcome item, wouldn't it?

I agree with ryan, it should be frozen.

#12 of 132 by tom67 on Thu Oct 13 15:42:34 1994:

Hi, Valerie and Ryan and Joker. I just wanted to know what "freezing"
is and why it is done. btw-thanks for all the Support in the other conferences
too!

#13 of 132 by brighn on Thu Oct 13 16:46:28 1994:

Freezing is done when an item has become inflammatory, irrelevant to the
conference, or otherwise inappropriate to the spirit of the conf or to
Grex. An item may be frozen either by the original entrant or by a
FairWitness for the conf (in this case, Jim, Ryan, or I). When an
item is frozen, it can still be read, but no new responses can be made to
it. Items can also be completely deleted (or at least hidden from view).
One more reason foor freezing: a FW may want to have an item that is
specifically updated only by the FW -- specs on the conf, for instance.
FuzCourt, for example, has a list of approved court members that only
King Fuzzy changes. In these cases, the item is thawed, appended, then
frozen again.
(Was that fairly accurate, those who know more than I do?)

#14 of 132 by aruba on Fri Oct 14 02:30:52 1994:

I think that's pretty accurate. I can think of an example that doesn't
fit any of your categories: the 6-letter word game in the IQ & Language
conferences is on its third edition, because when the first two editions
approached 1000 responses they got really slow. The first two editions
have been frozen.

#15 of 132 by brighn on Fri Oct 14 20:49:32 1994:

Good point. At least one item in Oathbound has gotten out of hand,
and should be frozen for the same reason.

#16 of 132 by jshafer on Sat Oct 15 06:13:53 1994:

Hmm, which item ere you referring to?

#17 of 132 by brighn on Sat Oct 15 17:19:36 1994:

I dunno. Maybe it's already been frozen. "Meandering Maundering" I
think it was.

#18 of 132 by anne on Sat Oct 15 17:50:23 1994:

It hasn't been frozen, merely sleeping. It's item #2, and over 1100... I
may freeze it and restart the item. Wouldn't that almost be a first,
resarting an item, I've heard of conference restarts, but an item?

#19 of 132 by brighn on Sat Oct 15 18:46:51 1994:

No, that's the point -- items are regularly restrated when they get too
many responses.

#25 of 132 by msimmons on Fri Dec 23 04:21:42 1994:

I am not exactly sure if this conference is designed to discuss issues relevant
to men? I wanted to know if anyone had heard ofa prodict called Response a
natural homeopath?

#26 of 132 by brighn on Fri Dec 23 21:56:06 1994:

Msimmons... that's exactly what this conf is for.
No, I haven't heard of that product.
What does it allegedly do?

#27 of 132 by lsee on Sat Feb 4 05:58:17 1995:

I agree with #26, . I have not heard of it, but what does it do. Doesn't remove
hair does it?" done

#30 of 132 by aruba on Sat Feb 4 20:25:43 1995:

It would be rather presumptuous of me to say I was a veteran. But I have
been kicking around a little while. Good luck learning Picospan, you seem to
be doing pretty well!

#31 of 132 by amoco on Wed Mar 1 22:05:20 1995:

Well, discussing whether or not we should freeze this item is very irrelevant.
Tho I really don't care.

Not like us quiet guys, so very polite. ;)

The fair witness welcomes you, Nephi.

Maybe the women would be a good source of "items" for men's issues.

Hi, I'm new.
Has anyone actually read this since April 7, or am I talking to myself?
Just wondering.
