I seem to remember something from 3rd grade history about houses being submerged in the Huron River. Does anyone know anything about this? Did the River change course? This would be out by Maple Road and Barton Dam. Also, supposedly at low tide, you can see the tops of the houses. Wouldn't the homes have eroded by now?

I believe there are homes submerged in Kent Lake, which is in Kensing- ton Park and is part of the Huron River watershed. I don't know of any submerged homes around here.
If anyone gets any good locations for these alleged houses, pass them on to me & I'll be happy to investigate them this Spring/Summer using my self contained underwater breathing apparatus.
Please look for the rudder from my sailboat that fell off in Kent Lake some years back. I did go back with a magnet (it was a steel rudder), without success. Didn't know I *might* have gotten a kitchen sink.
*That* would have been amusing.
I'm always looking for new stuff to look for in various lakes. If you have a
decent idea as to the location it was lost at, I could arrange to make a
recreactional dive in that lake in the approximate location.
Although depending on the lake, it might be buried under a foot or two
of sediment (aka MUCK!) by now.
Pretty hard to describe! Would have to go back (I have a wood rudder, now, so I feel much more secure). Maybe, next summer? Well, we could walk out on the ice to the approximate location, and poke a hole. Ready for that?
Yes!
I was afraid of that &-/. I gave up diving under ice - or rock - a while back. This expedition will have to be postponed a little, due to several previous committments.
I've heard a story about a train that went off the bridge where it crosses the Huron next to North Main. It was full of chewing gum, and some kid salvaged the gum and sold it at Jones Elementary School (now Community High). I don't know whether the train is still there, but I don't think the river is deep enough there to hide anything like that (then again, those people seem to be able to dive off the bridge without breaking their necks very often).
They would if there were still a train there :D
