I found out about the top program.  Very interesting.  It does lead to more
questions than answers.  So:
 
  1. I think I know what "user", "system", and "idle" are.  What are 
     "nice" and "spin".

  2. Likewise for "running" and "sleeping", but "zombie" and "stopped".
 
  3. Why are there three

Yes. Enter a   :   at the beginning of a new line while responding, and
you will enter the editor you chose to use in picospan.
