hiya. i'm relatively new on this system.... and i've been reading some of these posts, all of which were quite interesting/amusing... i've also seen an extreme lack of helpers on-line. i've been on at both relatively 'unpopular' hours, and really peak hours. almost every time, except for once, i've been the only helper online (or, the only helper with the helper flag set).... i just thought i'd bring that up. comments anybody? pooh/gary

I participated as a helper for a couple of years, and then decided it was someone else's turn. There is a period in the use of Grex when users might be approached more directly to be helpers. When they have learned the ropes and are most eager to show others is when they should be asked. I think it is natural to expect that after a couple of years of service it is OK to "retire", and let the new crop of experienced users take on the mantle. So, how about *asking* all users after a year of use if they would like to be helpers, and explain how they do this?
I've been keeping my helper flag turned on whenever I'm on -- but I find that it only seems to be on if I type mesg y. Is there some way to turn your helper flag on so you can help out without inviting cahts?
