I'm getting the message
    Bad parameters near ""
when I enter Fall Agora. Then I don't get the conference banner
until I issue an "r" command.

So am I actually....

#3 of 283 by aruba on Tue Sep 23 07:54:15 1997:

That just happened to me, too.

#4 of 283 by bmoran on Tue Sep 23 12:31:43 1997:

I got it also. Probably just a 'feature'.

#5 of 283 by null on Tue Sep 23 12:47:47 1997:

I have reason to believe that this "feature" is a conspiricy perpetrated
by beings of another world. I believe they want to distract us with the
so called "feature" in order to take over Grex, and eventually the planet.
They MUST be stopped at all costs!

I always knew valerie seemed a little strange... :)

Make that Ultra-Strength Concentrated Strange (tm). Sizism is not PC.

#9 of 283 by senna on Wed Sep 24 04:13:06 1997:

Grex is really slow on dialin, but that's just a RAM thing, methinks

#12 of 283 by srw on Wed Sep 24 20:39:50 1997:

Why is it that we never hear about the effects of the benificent aliens?

(Probably the media's fault.)

#13 of 283 by orinoco on Thu Sep 25 21:50:08 1997:

(I'm a beneficient alien, I just don't like to advertise it)

Arf! Arf!

#15 of 283 by srw on Sat Sep 27 01:13:39 1997:

I love it when this item degenerates in to silliness. It means the
system is running nicely.

#16 of 283 by orinoco on Sat Sep 27 18:00:43 1997:

Someome go break something so we can get back on topic.

#17 of 283 by senna on Sun Sep 28 05:20:05 1997:

<steve goes on a frenetic rampage and dials 3000 unsuccessfully, receiving
line noise and warranting a complaint>

Actually, not so weird. I need to reprogam the first 2 modems on 3000 to be
error-correcting, but haven't done so yet.

#20 of 283 by ivynymph on Sun Sep 28 16:51:41 1997:

I actually tend to jump for joy when I *don't* get line noise from
modems on -3000. Of course, I've been doing so quite a bit lately...

#21 of 283 by scott on Sun Sep 28 17:28:44 1997:

time for me to fix that, I guess.

#22 of 283 by other on Mon Sep 29 04:55:01 1997:

i don't get line noise, i just frequently get a failutre of the modems to
match speeds, even after repeated attempts and term resets and interrupts,
etc...

Ok, backtalk looks nice. It certainly edits nice, yes!
But, whenever I ask for the "itemlist" at Agora it takes hours to get there,
and I never know which items I'm in by heart, and reading all items would be
a tad bit too much for me to deal with.
next to that there doesn0t seem to be some sort of "menu" option like the
classic BBS has. Or am I severely mistaken here?

#25 of 283 by dang on Mon Sep 29 17:34:28 1997:

When I log in, I get this:

0: Event not found.

and portions of my .login and .cshrc are not run. For example, I don't get
a path, but I do get my prompt. (Path is in .login, prompt is in .cshrc)
Yet, I don't get my alias file sourced (in .cshrc) I really haven't
changed anything (Yeah, that's what they all say, but I haven't changed
anything on my account in over a year) If I source .login and .cshrc by
hand, everything works fine. Anyone know what's up? (I use tcsh, and
have never had a single problem in the past)

Oops. I did add that alias. I thought I had it right. (Okay, so I *did*
change something!) (The .login, I didn't change anything. Probably saved it
with a different number of spaces. I changed tabwidths and stuff.)

#28 of 283 by scott on Tue Sep 30 21:21:23 1997:

OK, ttyh5, which was not set for error-correcting, is now set for
error-correcting.

#29 of 283 by dpc on Wed Oct 1 20:48:14 1997:

I got an endless ring on -3000 a few minutes ago, but got right in
on -4931.

I had a similar problem this morning on 4931 and 5041. I would get
"connected" by never get a login prompt. The second time I tried, I walked
away from the screen for 7 minutes and came back to find Deja News on the
screen??????

Anyway, after dialing in just fine on 3000, I came back and was able to get
on with 5041

Re #24: The itemlist page will be slow in large conferences (since it needs
to read the header of every itemlist in the conference). Not much I can do
about that, but the next release of Backtalk (which I've been working on for
the last few days) should be noticably faster.

What sort of "menu" are you looking for?
