I had a help seeker today ask me about running eggdrop with mirc. I had no problem telling him/her that irc and eggdrop would not work on grex. But he didn't want to take that for an answer. (S)he wanted to run eggdrop with mirc and win95. We didn't finish discussing it - it said it's mom needed to use the phone. So, that said: What is irc like these days? What is a bot? What other bots are there besides eggdrop? Why do people like bots? Why do ISPs dislike bots? What helpful information can we give to people trying to use bots to make them happy and get them away from grex?

I remember it saying "No Bots" at least 3 times in the nether.net motd. Or myabe it was the newuser text. So a commedian who doesn't want to spend a lot of time on IRC can program a bot instead? Sounds pretty pointless to me. Are there "bot free" IRC channels and/or networks for people who prefer to chat with actual people instead? I suspect that's what I'd want if I were to spend time on IRC.
