I'm working on a new, spiffier version of the GREX Handbook. Please send your most frequent Helper questions and their answers to me for a new FAQ section I'll be adding. Thanks!
20 responses total.
I guess my most FAQ is, "What does it mean that my password is going to expire?" and the answer may change during the useful life of the handbook. How about instead of "passwords expire if they haven't been changed in a year" you print "passwords expire if they are not changed periodically." Run !genpass Use !change Possibly include an explination of the fact that people might figure out your password if given enough time and it might even be sensible for you to change it more often.
My most common one - not from help-seekers, actually, but from people who send mail - is, "I can't get Eudora to work with your system! What's the address/what am I doing wrong?" The answer being, we don't allow POP mail access, so you can't use Eudora or NetScape or any other remote-mail program on your Grex account.
Thanks! They'll be there!

I think people in general are having trouble with getting talk requests and not knowing what to do. talk seems to be the program of choice for our users from India - I've had some who said they were eager to talk to me, until I asked them to use write instead, at which point they gave up and started talk-requesting someone else. (???)
Responnse 6 sounds like a divine inspiration!
Wow! Tahnks everyone! I'll ask Ajax, too. Our first GREX documentation planning meeting is tomorrow at 2pm. It'll be great fun! Thanks for the help!

Today. (Sunday). Hadn't really thought about making it public 'cause I wasn't aware anyone else was interested. If you are interested, show up at my place. (Take anti-cat anti-dust, and anti clutter alergie meds first. It's bad here.) Number is 971-3888. We'll be at it until about 8pm.
One I'm really paranoid about getting again is, "How do I FTP my mail to myself so I can read it?"

*smile* BEcause: 1) I didn't know at the time and I still don't know. 2) The guy who wanted help was really nasty to me when I couldn't tell him (|and there was noone else around that I could ask who would know).

Just downloading it with ftp shouldn't damage it. Deleting it to clear out the already-downloaded stuff might, however. And downloading the same stuff over & over is *definitely* a bad idea.
