I just locked willcome's account because of his script that created some one
hundred new items in agora.

I asked him to stop first:

You might want to stop all known accounts owned by dah/willcome/The Supreme
Jerkoff, and block his ip. Better yet, back all of Canada's IP's until they
launch him into Space.

back=block.

#7 of 107 by twenex on Sat Jan 24 01:56:28 2004:

Preferably without a space suit.

#8 of 107 by dah on Sat Jan 24 02:02:31 2004:

Re. 5: First of all, it's inappropriate to discuss this matter here. You
know that.

Secondly, you had absolutely no reason to ruin Greek Week, an event sponsored
by the silly hat fund and meant to revive, review, and discuss Grex's Greek
history.

#9 of 107 by glenda on Sat Jan 24 02:12:47 2004:

Entering the entire text of Plato's Republic multiple times is not, never has
been, and never will be acceptable behavior. Even entering it once was way
overboard.

#10 of 107 by twenex on Sat Jan 24 02:13:25 2004:

That was the entire text? Wow.

#12 of 107 by dah on Sat Jan 24 02:16:07 2004:

Re. 9: First of all, it's THE Republic.

Secondly, it's entirely acceptable, and, in fact, encouraged by Grex's Greek
theme.

#13 of 107 by glenda on Sat Jan 24 02:23:03 2004:

It is a gross misuse of resources. And naming one conference with a Greek
name does not give Grex and "Greek theme."

#14 of 107 by dah on Sat Jan 24 02:27:15 2004:

Re. 13: nonsense. It was using the resources to promote Grex's Greek theme,
which it does indeed have, in its own name, in the name of Agora, in its
supposed commitment to free speech, and, among other things, in its collegial
atmosphere.

I announced it here to forestall the questions that would have arisen
when your items were discovered. I'm hoping folks will see the report
here before they run into the items and start asking there. I also expect
they'll ask what was done to stop the flood.

#17 of 107 by dah on Sat Jan 24 02:31:25 2004:

(I should note that the very fact Mrs AndrE didn't know about Grex's Greek
theme shows the need for education campaings such as the one Mr GelinaS
censored.)

#18 of 107 by glenda on Sat Jan 24 02:45:02 2004:

Mrs. Andre has been involved with Grex since before there was Grex. She knows
a hell of a lot more about Grex then a little trouble making twirp like you
ever will. Someone should talk to your parents and find out why you were
never given the discipline that you so obviously need.

#19 of 107 by dah on Sat Jan 24 02:50:41 2004:

Yes, I know. That's why it's so stunning you don't know about its Greek
theme.

#20 of 107 by keesan on Sat Jan 24 02:50:57 2004:

I just gave up trying to do b n to find out what went wrong with agora and
was able to do b 1-10 n and read about this problem. I only found about 64
new items, which I hope have been deleted by now, and a lot of (ignored) new
responses which I will have to plow through.

Does Willcome have another email address to which we can all send large
unwanted emails every day for the next month?

#21 of 107 by mary on Sat Jan 24 02:52:43 2004:

Thanks, Joe. I'd sure support all but one of the items
being killed. People with slow connections are going
to have a hard time slogging though this vandalism.

#22 of 107 by dah on Sat Jan 24 02:52:49 2004:

Try willcome@cyberspace.org.

#23 of 107 by dah on Sat Jan 24 02:53:08 2004:

(slip.)

#24 of 107 by dah on Sat Jan 24 02:56:17 2004:

Re. 21: I understand why you think you want that, Mrs Remmers. All the items
are virtually identical, and, it therefore seems that all meaning would be
retained by keeping just a single item. However, I think there's a certain
artistic meaning which can only be given by posting it dozens of times.
Censoring some of the items would undoubtably remove this meaning.

#25 of 107 by glenda on Sat Jan 24 02:56:57 2004:

Bullshit

#26 of 107 by dah on Sat Jan 24 03:06:15 2004:

(It should be noted that most every item willcome posted has posts from other
accounts or users, and are therefore distinct.)

Re. 25: Why do you hate fun things like Greek Week?

#27 of 107 by dah on Sat Jan 24 03:08:01 2004:

"last pid: 18530; load averages: 3.77, 5.38, 5.79

Of course, Greek Week used fewer resources than either of those STAFF MEMBERS
AND BOARD MEMBERS AND ETC MEMBERs.

#28 of 107 by naftee on Sat Jan 24 04:11:58 2004:

I for one, am shocked at the virtually scandalous behaviour exhibited by GreX
members and staffers. They have clearly shown here that they are ignorant
and slanderous of both Canadian and Greek cultures. I demand that the willcome
account be returned to its rightful owner.

#29 of 107 by scott on Sat Jan 24 05:55:23 2004:

Bullshit. Clear and obvious vandalism.

I think it's time we contacted polytarp's ISP.

#30 of 107 by twinkie on Sat Jan 24 07:25:27 2004:

Wow. Harsh words. I'm sure their ISP will hop-to, just like they did last year
when M-Net was having the same problem with polytarp & co.

If they have membership rights here, take them away. That seems to be the only
thing that got 'em bent out of shape last time.

#31 of 107 by bhoward on Sat Jan 24 12:14:10 2004:

It would be interesting to see how far they would make it on
the Well. This sort of behaviour only tends to have an impact
on communities that provide little to now barrier to entry
such as m-net and grex.

#32 of 107 by mary on Sat Jan 24 12:59:46 2004:

This type of stuff happens from time to time, and yes, making it
really easy to get an account and be up and posting does make it far
easier for the vandal. But it also makes it much easier for every
other new user to get into the discussions and be part of the
community. Worth the infrequent disruption, by far, in my opinion.

There are ways to minimize this type of vandalism. A lot of it has
to do with not rewarding this behavior with lots of attention.

#33 of 107 by keesan on Sat Jan 24 13:48:37 2004:

I still see '63 new items' - have they been deleted? I am doing a read 1-10
n instead of r n.

#34 of 107 by kip on Sat Jan 24 14:13:06 2004:

So what's the deal going to be? Is this going to be a 'letter versus spirit'
issue? Will we have to write down every usual polite civil unwritten behavior
as a member proposal in order to have things like this stop?

PS it's the weekend and I'll be honest and say that waking up to see this
kind of behavior sure doesn't motivate me to work hard on NextGrex.

Do I really want to hurry the day when someone like willcome can use a more
powerful machine to more quickly and completely cause chaos because it amuses
him?

#35 of 107 by naftee on Sat Jan 24 18:45:59 2004:

The consistent use of "they" in referral to willcome clearly shows the
attitude the GreX staff and members have towards users they consider
"outsiders". This I consider absolute rubbish. It sure doesn't motivate new
users to get a membership with a corporation who obviously doesn't want it.

#36 of 107 by rcurl on Sat Jan 24 22:40:22 2004:

There are no "outsiders" on Grex - but there are certainly jerks and
vandals. Even then, we only poke fun at jerks - but vandals are
totally unacceptable. I have no interest in vandals getting a Grex
membership in order to cause everyone trouble.

#37 of 107 by gelinas on Sat Jan 24 22:56:26 2004:

NB: polytarp, dah and willcome are separate userIDs, so "they" is an
appropriate pronound to use for those userIDs.

#38 of 107 by naftee on Sun Jan 25 00:36:24 2004:

Oh, so you admit that userIDs are the problem, and not the people who own
them? In that case, you should have no problem with contacting or banning
anyone's ISP.

#39 of 107 by i on Sun Jan 25 02:02:06 2004:

I chopped willcome's Plato out of item #18; that leaves one copy in
item #100 for now. Also rebuild the sum file in case it'd do any good.
