To the best of my knowledge, falling hair is cause most often by gravity. The best remedy would be to move to a zero gravity environment. ;-)
I think there are various causes. One of the most common is being male and over thirty, because of hormones which cut off blood supply to the hair. Wearing tight socks causes ankle hair to fall out, too. Nutritional deficiencies might cause hair loss. I expect that there is info about this on the web.
I have no experience or special knowledge with major "falling hair" problems. However, advancing age and some B vitamin deficiencies apparently made my (very fine) hair so brittle that it broke off easily, and the small bald spot at the crown of my head slowly enlarged (getting sunburned in summer, which didn't help). I can't turn back the clock, but I have altered my vitamin intake, and the bald spot has shrunk as hair grew in around it and stayed.
