Help with dip switch settings LX-80?
I have just come into an Epson LX-80 but can't make it respond.
When I turn it on it prints out "Data Dump Mode" and then just
sits there. I suspect that the dip switches on the back are
set wrong but since I don't have a manual I don't know what are
the correct settings. Can anybody help?? Muchimas gracias.

Make that muchisimas gracias
I can tell you what they are for a Star SG-10. It has two DIP switches of 8 and 4 switches respectively. Would this help?
The LX-80 has the same 8 and 4 switch setup so I'm willing to try the settings you use. After all it's better than trying 2 to the 12th power settings.
Here goes nothing (as they say....). I could e-mail this, but I'd
be interested in any differences others notice from other printers:
ON OFF
1-1 11" page 12" page
1-2 Char set #1 (IBM) Char set #2 (IBM mode)
1-3 10 CPI (pica) 17 CPI (condensed)
1-4 Normal NLQ
1-5 Ignore d/l char's Enable d/l char's
1-6 USA
1-7 USA
1-8 USA (these are for Int. character sets)
2-1 Paper-out detect No paper-out detect
2-2 STAR mode IBM mode
2-3 LF from host Auto LF with CR
2-4 Std. buffer Optional buffer
Good luck!
Well I tried but she no work. I set all #1 switches to on, 2-1 and 2-4 also on and 2-2 and 2-3 off. Same result. One more item of interest - I performed the printer test that comes with the MSD diagnostic on DOS 6 and it prints out the hex numbers for the characters alongside the stuff it is printing. eg: 0000 0d 0a 0d 0a 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 4d 69 63 72 6f .... Micro 0000 73 6f 66 74 20 44 69 61 67 6e 6f 73 74 69 63 73 soft Diagnostics etc etc Anybody have any ideas??
yeah, I do. And it's all fixed. The problem was switches allright, the online switch, LF switch and FF switch. They were all frozen closed. Once freed the printer works perfectly. Milagro!
What did you do, kick it? 8^]
No, Rane, I cleaned them and then used the ubiquitous WD-40 to lubricate the switches (thanks to a suggestion from the equally ubiquitous Carl Miller)
