Grex Hardware Item 75: Who can disassemble an Imagewriter II
Entered by tsty on Sun Oct 16 03:29:00 UTC 1994:

Hmmm, I think I'm stumped, darn.

Friend borught over an Imagewriter II to get some fix
done to it, like replace the motherboard.

Ok, I can take things apart .... until this popped onto my bench!

Got a lot of stuff apart but this printer is befuddling!

Who knows how to disassemble an Imagewriter II ?

I'm down to the guts of the thing, but can't get therest of it
figgered out !?

I assume you're looking for something a tad subtler than a sledgehammer
and chainsaw?

Like a torch?

Yeah, that's the ticket.....

(Um, TS, sorry to be so flip. It's just helplessness speaking, at least
in my case - anything I can open you can open better, I think.)

I wish "flip" were the most useful method - - but no suggestion left
unconsidered!

Actually would consider using a little more force than I've tried
to date, +if+ I knew that a friction-fit was the assembly method.

Any suggestions about +where+ I could find out? The local Apple people
have this "attitude" about clues. For $75 an hour they can keep their
attitude. It's a mostly legit charge - but that's if you are completely
unable to do anything.

I have an IW-II but have never had a reason to take it apart. However,
if someone were to give me a Apple Talk board to go in it, I'll let you
know how I got it apart;-) (Ever try opening a Power Book or a wall-wart?)

The original macintosh has special idiot proof screws hidden deep inside
the handle grip - it requires a special screw driver with a weird tip
and a long handle just to reach it. grr.

The image writer dates from the same time - so it's likely to have some
equally devious trick to dismantling it.

The later mac's come apart much nicer - I think they must have been
inspired by the Lisa.

Thankxx mdw; i've had no problem with the idiot-proof screws
in the handle - I don;t even need a proven idiot to open
mac+/SE/se-30 boxes.

However, this damn imagewriter is streching my idiot tendencies
to the limit! pshaw!

Try opening a PowerBook some time. ;-)
