Hi, most of you know me as the old geezer who helps to host the Grex music conference. This item is not linked there; I'm curious to find out what sort of music Hangout readers are listening to. I'm also curious about how many of you are seriously using MP3 files, and if that has cut into your acquisiting of CDs or cassettes.

My personal music preference tends to lean mostly toward Oldies, but I will listen to just about everything. I don't know why I like Oldies, but I just do. I have a few MP3's, and I am looking for more. I don't have enough yet to cut into my CD buying habits. My cassete buying habits are pretty much dead anyways.
Hey anybody out there like Matchbox20 or Third Eye Blind.
I like a wide assortment of music. The only stuff I don't like is the rap that sounds repetitive or is littered with racial slurs and cuss-words.
As far as types of music im interested in i would say im very eclectic, anything from a depressive depeche mode to a fast paced and ruff KMFDM. or a trip hop bass based band like portishead, I myself use mp3's quite frequently and think they have influenced me to buy albums instead of the popular view of the mp3 listener who is only in it for free music, I was glad to see cdnow and musicblvd merge, as i tend almost always to download the mp3 samples rather than the realaudio ones because the quality is much better and they dont cut out as i have an option to fully download them instead of stream the data, Another thing with mp3s is that they have allowed many unknown bands to get thier works better well known such as through mp3.com, places like these are very important to me because i find it harder to identify with much of the pop artists these days and dont like most of hte music on the radio and the mp3s alow me to search for myself who i like instead of the people with all of the money!
box20 is good:)
i also listen to alot of the older stuff like: yes, genesis, jethrotull, snergy, the stuff my dad has mostly:)
