(it's August 15, 2002, and nearly seven years since I met most of these
people for the first time.  where are they now?)

(Phil Thompson [cyrax]?)

(Andy Dunn [frosh]?)

(last I heard...)

(Josh [icepro] was in party a few days ago on a lark.  supposedly he was
with Mike [cinder], but we only heard from Josh.  as luck would have it, 
Andy [frosh] was in party the next day.)

(Becky [zim] is married and living near Columbus.  she was a party
regular a few months ago, but it's been a [long] while since I've heard
from her.)

(Emma [mulder] still reads this conference, and hopefully will mention
whatever it is she's doing, now that she's out of grade school.)  ;)

(Wendy [hematite] was at Michigan State University.  I don't know if she's
finished there or not.)

(Megan [freedom] found Islam, which changed her life.  I last saw her
around Thanksgiving 2000; she didn't have a working computer then.  I 
believe she completed her degree at Ohio State University.)

(Keri [sidekick] actually shows up on my ICQ list regularly, although
we usually only communicate about twice a year.  she's either finished
with her degree at Ohio Northern University, or nearly so.)

(Jim [dynamo] died in a traffic accident near Toledo in August 2001,
where he was going to school.)

(Blake [cybe] shows up when he feels like it.  I think that's the way it
should be.)

(I goofed on Sean [decaff];  his last name is actually Caffrey.  his
brother also was a Grexer [ldiot8oy], but I'm drawing a blank on that
name.)

(Audra [schmoo] may or may not be a math tutor at the University of
Dayton.  there's a picture over at www.udayton.edu/~tutor/Tutors.htm in
case anyone wants to look and see if it's her.  I only met Audra once, and
her appearance escapes me at the moment.)

(Robert [rlawson] recently returned to the poetry conference, where he is
a fairwitness.  He had been an intern near Washington, DC, but appears to
have returned to Ohio.)

(Andy [frosh] indicates in his .plan that he's a junior at Ohio State
University.  there's no word on whether his hard rock band, Widget, is
still active.)

(Keri [sidekick] was on both the tennis team and the swim team at Ohio
Northern, and was named Academic All-Conference for both squads last year.

anyone's curious to see how she looks these days.  for the record, she's
listed as a graduating senior.)

(while not exactly from the Columbus area, Jack Martin [jemart] was
actually the second Grexer from Ohio that I met.  in fact, he would have
been first, but he sent his daughter, Shannon [shannon], to find me after
I couldn't find the house.  I have no idea what any of the family are
doing.)

(also worth noting is teddyber [name unknown], who Wendy [hematite]
credits for being the one who encouraged Columbus Freenetters to make the
jump to Grex way back when.  I understand that he moved to Florida around
1994 and hadn't really been heard from since.  aside from the historical
record, teddyber's party channel and noise live on.)

this thread reminds me of shattering glass; a mirror without an image.

i imagine a good amount of reflection went into carson's leading post.

i've got to say,  i couldn't disagree.

i've not the monolithic accomplishments,
          the religeous sanctity,
           the college degree.

for i was cybe - the catalyst.
now, I am xerodata.  the nameless, referenceless, lack of cybe.

cybe was my mojo.  (yeah, baby)

Today, they call me Johnny Blaze.  Yep.  Big shot salesrep.

i have no lies for you - you were all my friends -years- ago.

i remember each one of you, megan, keri, wendy, carson, robert ..

i am still in touch with llanarth, or rather, in touch again.

megan, many a time i've thought, and recently, of your red pulsar, and
curly hair.  the poetry i've searched grex endlessly, fruitlessly, for.
It must've been washed away, much like the last time I saw you, no longer
am i a poet, but writing this makes me all swoony, and i long to express
to you the actual essence of you and I, years ago.  The fireworks, Ashley,
Westerville.  Christian with the big scars.

keri, you were so much fun :)

so here's the full update.

My name is Blake.  Blake Carroll.  I have no middle name, and Blake is my
mother's maiden name.  Carroll, the obvious surname.  I claim no original
name of my own.  My middle name may as well be a hyphen.

I love, and hate it.  It makes and breaks me.

I am a man of morals.  You all know right from wrong.  Don't be wrong on
purpose, it's evil.

I am 21 now.  My b-day is 6/6/81, making me a Gemini.  I hope, dearly,
that any one of you misses me :)

Again, I have no lies for you, and this may be a might direct.

I've failed in my life somewhat - I'll be taking my driver's exam tomorrow
- yes, I'm 21.  I carry a GED level education, yet somehow can tell you
the thermal resistance of Copper in theta - (.13, btw)

I've never been one for symantics.  The corporate machine is my enemy, yet
I subscribe to it.

I live by myself in a lakeview apartment in Grove City - I'd originally
gotten it for myself and my girlfriend of three years - she'd had an
encounter with my neighbor, and we had to move - so, superhero cybe
decided to surprise her with a nice 2 bedroom lakeview.

Shagrin, a thousand days from our first anniversary, she's not welcome
back, instead she and my old friend are pregnant together. 

I actually hope it works out :)  So for now, I am on my own.

I drink a little, smoke a lot, and get high.  yep.  sorry.

Currently I'm a manager twice over for Waterbeds 'n Stuff.  I manage our
websites www.waterbedsnstuff.com, and www.cybersmoke.com.  I'm also a
wholesale representative, which has really broken me of my shyness,
especially on the phone.  I think I'm socially anxious.  This is a
wonderful way for me to speak the truth about myself to people who
remember me, and it really counts for something, in my mind.

I'm at my desk now, and I'm supposed to be taking orders from people in
PA, MI, IL, ME, DE, MO..  I sell sex-toys, novelties, and smoking
accessories.

I'm damn good at it too, and proud.  finally.

All of this is here not only as a monument for me to find again, but
because it really matters to me that carson mentioned each one of us, with
a statement.  I understand that the reason he says "that's the way it
should be" is because of my sporadic emotional puberty as documented in 94
on grex :)

I'm not unhappy.

Guess what guys - I'll be around, and if - for whatever reason - you do,
or do not reach me, :) I'll still be me when you do.
