We're coming to A2 this June, from the 12th to the 20th. Sindi and Jim have offered us a place to stay, but we are open to other hosts. We'd also like some ideas on what to see.. I'll add more later..
36 responses total.
Jon, to give people an idea of what sorts of things might interest you, could you tell us what you would show visitors to your part of the world? Jon and Julie are very welcome to stay with us the whole time, but I think it would be more fun for them to see how other people lived as well, and there is the minor problem of Jon (at 6'1") being longer than my guest bed (double). Would anyone like to host them for a couple of days out of this period? Or take them to visit the sights? Such as Lansing and Elderly Instruments? Detroit and the Henry Ford Museum? A Michigan state park and/or a Great Lake?
The orchestra instructor at our university recommended U of M, of course, and I suppose quite a bit of my interest would be music-related, providing Julie's not too bored. The best glb scene near where we live is the Capitol Hill area of Seattle. There's the Aero, which is a drag bar; The Cuff, which is a leather-theme bar (not an entirely pure leather scene); the Wild Rose, and Neighbor's, both mixed-gender bars. To buy leather, the Crypt and Fantasy Unlimited are nearby, and the Pink Zone has general glb pride items. There are also a few glb bookstores. Most everything is on or nearby Broadway Street. Julie and I were only there for a short evening, so I don't know how interested she is in the A2 glb scene, especially as we don't drink. Closer to where we live is Roslyn, home of the famous Roslyn Cafe shown in the opening credits to "Northern Exposure." The restaurant where other scenes were shown is also there, of course, in addition to a fabulous bakery, a quaint moviehouse, and a popular homestyle pizzeria. Besides Seattle, which many of you are familiar with, is mostly boredom. Things relax much more considerably from Ellensburg to the Tri-Cities, which is just about everything east of the Cascades. I like Julie's hometown of Yakima a lot, but many people find the city incredibly boring. (I didn't grow up in urbania-- I grew up in Kennewick, one of the three Tri-Cities, which has pockets of county within city limits. I've observed both small city and rural life.) I'm not quite sure what Julie is interested in. As I have said elsewhere, we are primarily concerned with meeting the people of Grex :)
I know the Nectarine has glb night, and I like dancing there. I don't know if you two like dancing or not...
Come on a GrexWalk - Saturday mornings. They start at about 10:15 in Gallup Park by the Huron River. We wander through Gallup and the lovely U of M Arboretum. After the walk we go to a local restaurant for lunch. Good exercise, nice scenery, and you get to meet Grexers.
John, could you collect Jon and Julie for a grexwalk and bring them by Kiwanis on the way to the Arb? You live near my apartment. Unfortunately they arrive on a Saturday and leave the second following Sunday, meaning theywould not meet grexers that way until the day before they left Ann Arbor. How else would someone go about meeting grexers en masse?
Maybe we could have a potluck at Gallup Park the Sunday after they get here. I'll head over to agora and post it.
resp:3 We are dancing freaks..gimme disco, gimme funk, gimme techno!
Good. We'll go dancing every night. ;-) I'll try to get the Nec's schedule. I can't remember which night is glb night, eighties night, etc, etc. They have all sorts of music and some good themes. I'm starting to wonder if I should take more time off for this... Be sure to e-mail Bob. He has a couple days off weekly (usually Sunday and Monday) and is always up for a trip to a2.
Saturdays is eighties-Disco night.

ehhe jazz snuck in on me
I'm tricky that way.
I just talked to Dave, and he said that Saturday is eighties/disco (whee!!!) and Tuesday is GLB night. There was another GLB night, but Tuesday is one of the days I'll be there. ;-) I haven't gone dancing in ages, and I LOVE 80's and disco, so let's go both Saturdays...heh.
Thursday or Friday is the other gay night. It's really not GLB, at
least not the last few times I've been there. It's just guys.
and? <grin>
<pout> Just guys? Phooey. Guess I'll have to tape myself down and pretend. ;-)
For myself. I like to dance, read, conversate with new friends, walk outdoors, explore any new area, learn new things, etc. I haven't really done any exploration into the other half of my nature. I suppose the technical term would be bi-curious, except I am highly attracted to both men and women, particularly if they're nice. Most of the reason for the fact that I haven't done any exploring with a MOTSS is because Jon and I are married and I don't want to damage things. I don't mind exploring the glb scene in A2 so long as Jon and I don't get separated for any reason. I know I sound paranoid, but we've only been married for four months, sheesh!
<grin> It's okay. =) You'll have fun in a2, then. Walking in the Arb any time of day is wonderful, and a lot of grexers like to talk about anything under the sun. (Case in point - the cfs).
sarah, maybe we can make them to honorary members of the "gang" ;)
Ooohhh! The Trash Can Club! Excellent idea, Bob. Of course, if we bring them there at night, they're automatically in. =)
Sounds like fun.
I cannot wait. School is beating down on me like a hailstorm and I have not danced in ages. I have only been to a dance with a gay crowd once, and I had a blast, so I am stoked!
not much of a dancer here/// althoguh i DID dance a bit ast night at me father's weddin' was fun, and he seems happy, as wuz I
YES!!!!! We're coming tomorrow! I'm so excited I know I'm not going to be able to cleep tonight. It's like waiting for Santa to come. My parents always made us wait in our rooms until they rang a bell (that way they still get some sleep, at least). It was very hard to avoid coming downstairs and I always woke up very early because of excitement. Can't wait to meet all of you guys. <excited laugh)
be able to cleep?
To reach Julie and Jon, email Keesan or phone my apartment (my number is in the phone book). It is 6:30 am their time right now so wait a few hours. We will be leaving around 12:30 for the Gallup Park potluck. (I will refrain from ringing a bell for breakfast). We are grateful to them for bringing us some northwest weather to replace the heat wave.
hehe-- it does seem like that. Sindi has been kind enough to mention us in a new answering machine message, so you can confirm we are in town. Although we are enjoying the sights, we are much more enjoying the company of people we meet, so feel free to contact Julie and I.
Vanessa-- we are still trying to reach you..call I guess we will have to wait to see Bob from what I hear-- wait to have him come to us :/
It's harder to reach her through her Grex address. I'll dig up her other one and mail it to you.
mail Julie-- I haven't changed my .forward; my Grex mail goes to CWU.
wait to hear from me? how long ya guys in town? <bobbo checks his calendar...hmm next week????>
They leave Sunday.
Bob-- hadn't you read? Hrm, I thought I'd mentioned that a number of times. I'm sorry. We wanted to see you, but we figured we weren't going to be able to see you this time around. However, if you do go to Bellingham, stop in before you get to the West Coast. Maybe we'll plan a road trip to Seattle, if it can be in August.
<bob snaps his fingers in disgust>
Not a big deal, Bob. We'll be back. Don't know when, but, it'll happen.
