the only plant i named deserved it and another got named by association I have a yucca plant that my roomate has taken over that is very prickly, hence the name Pokey. Our aloe therefore got named Gumby by association!
During my undergrad dorm days, we had a green-leafed spider plant called "phred" after the young Vietnamese character in the "Doonesbury" comic strip.
I named a plant Rambo once. I was looking for a plan that children couldn't kill. The latin name startred with an R and I couldn't pronounce the name. I shortened it to Rambo. I planted the plant 10 yeras ago and it is the toughest plant I have seen. No matter how much the children beat on the plant it continues to thrive. I will have to look for the latin name. I also have some rose bushes I planted that same summer all they are also healthy but I haven't given them a name yet.
my first bonsai was a young popocarpus by the name of alfred. :)
