Grex Femme Item 151: 29 Neccessities Women Should Indulge In
Entered by denise on Tue Aug 7 03:18:38 UTC 2007:

I found this article on a website [I forget where] about the necessities
we women should indulge in. There are 29 of them, so I'll try and
enter each one [or several] as a seperate response[s], perhaps making
it easier to read!?

It's interesting read! How many of these do YOU indulge in?

39 responses total.

Indulgent Necessities

29 Things Every Woman Should Splurge On
By Geneva J. King
To splurge, to spend on oneself, to indulge - it sounds so sinful,
doesn't it? As women, most of us are so accustomed to the role of
caregiver that we often feel guilty when caring for ourselves. It's
time for us to re-evaluate our priorities, and to remember that there
are some purchases that no woman should postpone - acquisitions that
can create a quality of life that a hard-working woman needs and
deserves. So brew a cup of tea, put your feet up, and indulge yourself.

Great Bra
Finding a supportive bra means so much to the curvy woman! It can be
nearly impossible to participate in some sports when you have support
needs, since most " sports" bras are not helpful to women with ample
bust lines. You'll love the Enell bra, which comes in sports designs as
well as basic colors, and was designed for true support. Your back will
thank you!

Breast Exam or Mammogram
Sometimes, a splurge can be on something that isn't fun, but is simply
necessary. In addition to taking the personal time for monthly breast
self-exams, make an appointment with your health care provider for your
yearly clinical breast exam, and if the provider so recommends
(generally age 40 and beyond), a mammogram. According to the National
Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations, early detection and treatment
of breast cancer gives a woman a 97 percent chance of survival at five
years.

An Evening of Culture
There is so much more to life than a cubicle, a daily commute or a
dust-free living room. Incorporate an outing to the theater, opera, or
museum into your hectic evening. The experience will enrich you and
perhaps even inspire you. Plus, you'll emit class and sophistication
for weeks following the outing. For an added splurge, wear a new dress!

Babysitter
All moms know that a great sitter is hard to find. Once you do find one,
use her (or him) for more than date night! Call your sitter and let her
serve the macaroni and cheese while you go window-shopping or for a
nice long walk. There is nothing like the peace of mind that comes from
knowing the kids are having fun while you're taking a break.

One Classic Necklace
You can never go wrong with pearls - a great set will take you from the
office to the nightclub. Not only will you receive pleasure from your
investment, but your great- granddaughter is sure to treasure your
bequest.

One Classic Suit
Suits are not just for the workingwoman; they are for every woman. When
you wear professional attire, there is an aura that surrounds you. This
is the apparel to wear to the principal's office, and it will take you
with panache to job interviews, funerals, city council meetings and
weddings.

Portrait
Was your last professional photograph taken for your high school
graduation? Then it's time to sit for a portrait session. Hang your
portrait at home, and use it later as part of your r sum , or to
include in a family history. In your later years, you'll be glad that
you have a photograph of you in your prime to pass down to future
generations.

Great Pair of Sneakers
Are your aching feet demanding a quality and comfortable shoe? Our lives
are so hectic these days, and our feet take the brunt of the
punishment. Cloudwalkers comes to the rescue with fantastic shoes that
look great with a skirt or laced up with jeans. Best of all, they have
a great fit and provide terrific support to your feet and body. Toss out
those arch-less wonders and slip into comfort.

Last Will and Testament
While none of us like to dwell on thoughts of our own mortality, part of
being an adult is taking care of business. Plus, you'll have peace of
mind when you know that your affairs are settled. A simple will is
inexpensive (and, in some states, a handwritten and signed testament is
all that's necessary to be legally binding), and you'll feel
satisfaction in knowing that your family and friends will receive all
you want to provide for them.

Flowers
You can't go wrong with flowers. They bring a smile to your face and a
sense of well being to your soul. There is no reason to wait for The
Perfect Date to come along and present you with a dozen roses when you
can pick them up for yourself. Purchase a bouquet of roses and arrange
them in a vase, or buy a single bud for your hair or lapel.

Favorite Charity
A life of quality includes a concern for others. By adopting a cause or
organization that you believe in, you can make a difference and have an
impact on your world. You're guaranteed to receive joy from giving.

Journal
Whether you ultimately decide to burn it or to share it with future
generations, a journal can be one of your most intimate possessions.
You shouldn't record your innermost feelings and ruminations in a
loose-leaf notebook or dime store diary. A great journal has acid-free
pages that won't deteriorate over time. Go all out and get a great pen
to round out the set.

#7 of 39 by denise on Tue Aug 7 03:24:46 2007:

Massage
A great massage is nothing less than therapy. It relaxes your muscles,
invigorates your soul and frees your mind. If you're a bit
self-conscious, go for back or foot massages until you are ready for a
full body massage. But by all means, spend a few dollars to knead the
tension away.

#8 of 39 by denise on Tue Aug 7 03:25:23 2007:

Mutual Fund
The rule of thumb is to pay yourself first by contributing to savings
accounts and investments, but how many of us do that? Investing in a
mutual fund is a safer bet than investing in stocks individually. Some
funds, such as Invesco (800/675-1705), allow you to begin a mutual fund
by direct debit of your savings or checking account. This allows even
the most modest investor ($50 per month minimum) to begin to build a
stable portfolio.

#9 of 39 by denise on Tue Aug 7 03:26:07 2007:

Dry Cleaner/Laundry
Ironing is the bane of humankind. No one likes it, but it's a necessary
evil. Why spend hours slaving over a hot iron when you can drop cotton
shirts at the cleaners in most areas for $1-$1.50? Your time is
valuable, so splurge on this service, and enjoy picking up
fresh-smelling laundry that was ironed while you were at the bookstore!

Your Own Toolbox
Don't settle for hand-me-down tools - create your own toolbox so that
when you need to hang a picture or do some home maintenance, you don't
have to "borrow" a hammer. Keep a similar tool kit in your car, and you
can be the knight in shining armor instead of the damsel in distress!

#10 of 39 by denise on Tue Aug 7 03:26:57 2007:

Great Haircut
Do you do battle with your hair on a daily basis? You want it to flip
back, but the tresses fall forward. You want it to lay flat, but it
sticks up. Save yourself aggravation by having a stylist create a cut
that is meant for your hair type and head shape. A great cut should be
easy to maintain and look fantastic, too!

Beautiful Scents
Aromatherapy has become a buzzword, but even our grandmothers knew that
a relaxing smell could change a sourpuss into a pussycat. A few scented
candles and a bit of potpourri can adjust your senses and your
attitude.

#11 of 39 by denise on Tue Aug 7 03:27:42 2007:

Digital Camera
It's a digital world, and you should be a digital girl! Anything worth
taking a picture of is worth keeping forever and sharing years from
now, so you'll want to have it in digital format. The latest digital
cameras and camcorders have phenomenal quality and some have prices
that rival a film camera. Owners of digital cameras simply take more
pictures, and enjoy their cameras more. Why wait to find out if you've
got the shot? Go digital and know now.

#12 of 39 by denise on Tue Aug 7 03:28:36 2007:

Great Pantyhose
There is nothing worse than a poor fitting pair of pantyhose. Yet we've
all scrimped on them and then played tug of war in order to squeeze our
shapes into a binding, pinching garment. Buy great quality hose from a
company like Berkshire that designs product specifically for the plus
figure! Your thighs, stomach and joints will thank you.

Globe
It's important to remember that, in the grand scheme of things, life's
daily dramas are insignificant. Looking at a globe and imagining the
lives of other people around the world can help us keep our problems in
perspective. A stately globe adds warmth to any room, helps you follow
news events from around the world, and provides the reminder that it's
a small world.

#13 of 39 by denise on Tue Aug 7 03:29:21 2007:

A Pet
Can we really call it splurging to adopt a best friend? There is nothing
like a special pet to make you feel like the only person in the world,
since to them, you are!

Beautiful Stationery
Email is amazing, but there is nothing like receiving or sending a
personally penned letter. It's easy to get in the mood to pour out your
feelings or relate the latest news when you're using lovely stationary
with matching envelopes. There is something romantic and old world
about musings that go from your hand into the hands of another.

#14 of 39 by denise on Tue Aug 7 03:30:21 2007:

Comfort Food
Every woman has a food from childhood that makes her feel better, or
that makes a great day perfect. Re-creating grandma's perfect bread
pudding or concocting mom's Friday night casserole can perk up those
spirits.

Pedicure
You carry the world on your shoulders, and all that weight is painful to
your arches. A great pedicure helps dress up your toes and gives your
hard-working tootsies some well-earned attention. Which polish do you
prefer, the pink or the red?

Fun Class
We are never too old to learn, but we often spend so much time learning
computer code that we never fulfill that promise to ourselves to learn
to play the piano. Learning something new and fun, be it a lesson in
how to create a French meal or perform a ballet, will add spring to
your step and expand your horizons.

#15 of 39 by denise on Tue Aug 7 03:31:43 2007:

Great Handbag
It's fashion, it's convenience...it's your life in a small tote! Why not
find a handbag that reflects your style, and has all the features you
deserve? From clutches to shoulder bags, you'll find attributes that
make your life easier, such as wireless phone pouches, credit card
sections and quick-adjust straps. Never fumble for your keys again. Buy
a bag that lets you be both organized and stunning.

Professional Housecleaning
Whether you work at home, in an office, or on an airplane, there is
never enough time to deep clean your home the way you'd like. Leave
some of the heavy duty scouring to a service, or go all out and sign up
for weekly service. You may feel a twinge of guilt at first, but there
are so many other fantastic ways to spend your time, without cleaning
the oven or mopping the floor, that you'll be too busy care!

Indulgent Soaps
We all have them - beautiful soaps, wrapped in cellophane, laid out for
guests. If they are great for guests, why aren't they suitable for the
lady of the manor? Buy a few luxurious bars, take off the plastic wrap
and actually bathe with them!

#16 of 39 by denise on Tue Aug 7 03:33:17 2007:

So there you have it! Sure wish I could afford some of these things!

I'll have to come back another time to make my comments...

#21 of 39 by denise on Wed Aug 8 00:22:20 2007:

Stuff from the list that I have [or have had in the past]:

--Yes, I do get a mammogram every year because of the history of cancer
in my family including my mom with breast cancer [had a masectomy], dad
with cancer [being well controlled with hormonal therapy], my eldest
sister died with 3 types of cancer, a cousin who died of breast cancer
and another one who died of brain cancer. So yep, I think its
important [and I've had to get a biopsy a few years ago following a
suspicious looking mammogram].

--I do have 2-3 nicer necklaces around [including pearls] but I never
think to wear them.

--Portrait: I've had a couple since HS, First, we had a photographer
come in and take individual portraits for my nursing school
class--besides taking the photos for the class composites with our
uniforms, we had the option of getting pictures taken with regular
'street' clothes. So that was cool. [I was given a gift package that I
didn't have to pay for [or got super cheap] since I was the one that
made the arrangements to have the photographer come in. So I ended up
with a fairly big-sized photo with me in my nursing uniform that I have
no idea waht to do with]. Then, a few years later, I somehow ended up
with one of those package deals where you get so many sittings at the
photo studio. I went in once but then gave my other coupons to friends.

--Great pair of sneakers: got 'em, I just need to get back to using
them!

--getting flowers for whatever [or no] reason is nice; though its
something that I've only done for myself once or twice. But I've had
some sent to me once in awhile for special occasions and they're always
nice to have around.

--journals: I've tried to journal a number of times throughout life but
usually didn't stick with them, maybe in part since I primarily used
them to vent--which might be a way to blow off steam, but depressing
when I did that every day--so I'd get discouraged and quit. However, I
started a project recently--from a workbook I'm going through; and one
of the things strongly suggested we do is to sit down with a notebook or
journal every morning and write 3 pages each morning. About whatever or
nothing, as long as you get in 3 pages [so if you can't think of
anything to say, just say over and over, 'I don't know what to write, I
don't know what to write]. And over time, you'll find stuff to think
about, focus a bit on, and express these things in written form. You
don't ever have to go back and reread if you don't want [and its
suggested that you don't til some time later] and ya never [shouldn't]
have to show it to any one else... So far, in about 2 weeks or so,
I've done pretty well, only missing one day--though I did do it one day
late in the afternoon and 2 other days I didn't do a whole 3 as
suggested.

#22 of 39 by denise on Wed Aug 8 00:34:43 2007:

--Massage-I used to date someone that gave the most awesome foot as well
as hand massages... Aaahhh...

--Toolbox--I have a very basic one with a few token things in it.

--Great Haircut: Does anyone have any suggestions on a good but
inexpensive place to get a good cut? I've been to a couple recommended
'salon's' and all that provided me was a more expensive cut that wasn't
one that I was all that crazy about. So I usually end up at a place
like Fantastic Sams which is a hit and miss proposition. And why does
it happen so many times when you tell them what you want, but they go
ahead and do something else?

--Digital Camera-I do have one but I'm not all that convinced yet that I
like it better than a film camera. Yep, it has a number of advantages
over a film camera. But for me, overall, I still like my film one
better. It's in part because of the slight delay in taking the actual
picture after pressing the release button. For alot of shots, that's
not a big deal but for candids and such, it IS a big deal as they often
[usually for me]] don't come out all that well. Not like they do with
my film one. Yeah, I can 'practice' with it but still, it doesn't
eliminate that hesitation/delay so there WILL be times where the
piictures won't turn out. Granted, I can just delete it, but there are
many times where we can't go back and re-do the event and try it again.

--A Pet-we've had dogs when I was growing up and it was definitely a
good and fun experience. And the last one we had for the family became
MY dog when I had gotten married and moved out to the country. Since
then, I've missed having one of my own but either didn't have the time
for it--beiing away too long every day but having the $$ for it, or,
having the time but no money. So for the last couple years in Durham, I
did a LOT of dog-sitting for the dog that lived upstairs from me [and
was allowed to take her out for a walk any time I wanted to, even when
her owners were home].

#23 of 39 by denise on Wed Aug 8 00:39:37 2007:

--Comfort Food: I can't live without it!! :-)

--A Fun Class--I've done classes on a number of occasions--like
photography classes as well as some cool craft classes and workshops.

--Great Handbag--well, I've had my 'shoulder bag' that I've been using
for a couple years now--and I can fit so much into it! Though I do
like backpacks as well [but I don't have one at the moment].

--Professional Cleaning--no, I don't have this done on a regular basis
[but have known people that do]. However, I once won a certificate for
a free 2-hour cleaning from Molly Maids [is there one of these
franchises up here in MI?]

I have no use for most of the things on the list. Jim cuts hair and we have
four digital cameras and his basement is a toolbox. We just pampered
ourselves by spending $38.11 at a new Chinese food store in Ypsi. Dried taro
leaves. Dried abalone mushrooms.

#25 of 39 by i on Wed Aug 8 02:31:59 2007:

Hmmmm...how about:

Medical directives & durable power of attorney - if you're in a coma and
your family has to make hard choices, will they magically know what you'd
want? Or have the legal authority to tell the doctor what you want?

Quality chocolate - when you crave chocolate, don't blow your body on
sugar & fat kiddie "chocolate" junk food, or budget on waxy sculpture,
get *REAL* chocolate. A little goes a long way!

*NON*-Invesco mutual fund - the SEC has judged that the "fine folks" at
Invesco have stolen more than a third of a *billion* dollars from their
investors. Similar at a number of other big mutual fund companies.
Check carefully *before* you send 'em your check.

Hasn't recent research shown that regular use of candles, etc. indoors
is about as unhealthy as second-hand smoke?

My understanding is that, past about age 55, heard disease kills many
more women than breast cancer - partly because doctors think of it as
a "man's disease", and let women die through neglect & undertreatment.
Start getting regular cardio exercise now, and make sure your doctor
knows & cares about this.

Unlike 'most everything else on the list, taking good care of a pet is
a *bleep* of a lot of work, and a long-term commitment. That doesn't
sound like an indulgence to me, unless you're rich enough to have the
servants do it.

#26 of 39 by denise on Wed Aug 8 13:19:30 2007:

I haven't done anything like mutual funds--I don't have any money to
spare to be able to do that [nor am I currently contributing anything
to a retirement fund--though I do have some set aside from past
employment].

Medical directives/power of attorney is a good idea... My family does
know a few things I want [but I better make sure!]

And I totally agree with good chocalate is a necessity. :-)

"I have no use for most of the things on the list."

A lot of the items on the above list aren't 'HAVE to haves' but sure are
nice when we CAN have them [I guess that's why the list said
'indulgances']. And many of them aren't really indulgances but just
plain ol' good stuff we 'should' be doing.

Granted, Sindi, there are a number of things on the list that we don't
agree with needing [or desiring] to have. But even for you and your
lifestyle you live, I would think there are things to do like:

Breast Exam or Mammogram
--This is really something that we all *should* be getting, at least in
my opinion as well as the opinions many health professionals.

An Evening of Culture
'Culture' doesn't mean having to go spend alot of $$ to do something
that you enjoy. Like going to local museums that don't cost anything.
Or listening to a free outdoor concert, or even finding and reading a
good book [about various cultural and interesting stuff] that you can
get at the library. And, Sindi, I know that you do go and get stuff
from the library from time to time. Granted, you don't HAVE to do any
reading to survive, but it sure is enjoyable, isn't it? And that's at
least in part, what this item is about--finding ways to enjoy
life--things beyond just surviving in this world and/or to make things
easier for ourselves [like the tool box thing, for example].

Great Pair of Sneakers
With all of the walking you and Jim do, this IS something to really
consider for the health of your feet. You don't have to go out and
spend $100 on a good pair but neither do you have to spend just a few
bucks on a shoe that hasn't any support and such for the feet.

Last Will and Testament
Depends on if you're going to leave everything to Jim or not...

Great Haircut
It doesn't really matter where or who you choose to cut your hair,
wouldn't you want to have a cut that you're comfortable with?

Digital Camera
Do you USE your camera[s]?

Fun Class
There are often free ones at the library and elsewhere. We all have
interests in life and/or stuff we'd like to learn more about. So its
great to have these available to expand our minds.

The medical directives and such, does Jim know what your
desires are if/when you're in a position to voice your concerns??

These are just a few things from the list... Though I'm sure there are
some that Sindi doesn't go along with, for whatever reasons.

#27 of 39 by keesan on Wed Aug 8 16:21:42 2007:

We do have will and medical directives. You don't need to pay for those.
I like the way Jim cuts my hair. I have had some awful professional cuts.
Jim likes to take classes at WCC. I audit them at the U. We spend lots of
time at the library, free concerts, and museums. None of this but WCC costs
anything (and after he is 62 he gets one free class a year). We use our
digital cameras. What I don't have a use for is the stuff like jewelry and
other possessions that some people do like.

Great Bra
Gosh, my Boomer roots are showing. Only have one for
think-of-the-children occasions. Usually these are really
think-of-the-clients occasions.

Breast Exam or Mammogram
Not even a splurge. Just what you do.
An Evening of Culture
All the time.

Babysitter
I AM the babysitter. I offer when I know someone hasn't got the cash to
splurge.

One Classic Necklace
but your great- granddaughter is sure to treasure your
bequest.--
Yep, I do. My kids' generation gets my mom's set of pearls, they
alternate through the generations so that the adult women have them.

One Classic Suit
Navy, with a hat with attitude.

Portrait
Every 5 years whether I need it or not. I must confess that on my 50th,
I splurged on a "Glamour Shot". All make-up, hair, wonderful fantasy
fun.

Great Pair of Sneakers
White for summer, black for winter. Recommended after the Birkenstocks
just couldn't provide the support I needed any longer.

Last Will and Testament
Updated every time one of the beneficiaries reaches adulthood.

Flowers
A single rose is always in a vase in the entryway. The first thing you
see when you enter my home.

Favorite Charity
Grex. Gotta love it.

Journal
Daily. Since 1967. In a locked file at the Michigan Historical
Library, since they seem to think I did some pioneering things for
Michigan women.

Massage
Need more of these. I only get them once a week, in an exchange with a
friend who does Rieki work.

Mutual Fund
Retirement is covered. Barely, but covered.

Dry Cleaner/Laundry
When I was working, I had this one down pat. Even had the local
drycleaner who let me in the back door at 6 am to get what I needed to
wear to work that day. Way too many nights working past their closing
time.

Your Own Toolbox
Two big hefty ones, one at my cabin, one at my apartment. My favorite
"Aunt Colleen outrageous gift" to girls who wander through my life at
gift-giving times.

Great Haircut
Same guy has been cutting my hair for over 30 years. He does it short,
he does it long, he does it however I feel like having it.

Beautiful Scents
Not into artificially scenting up my living environment, but I do have a
couple personal signature perfumes.

Digital Camera
Replaced my professional Nikons with a digital snapshooter about 3 years
ago. I'm with Denise about the shutter delay. I hear we just need to
spend more and move back up to a professional level camera.

Great Pantyhose
If I had a plus figure, I'd wear plus panty hose. Fortunately, I can
still get by with the cheapies. I must confess that I go for the
high-end silky ones when I do dress-up.

Globe
My Oxford English Dictionary replaces this. Not the same, but I do have
Google.

A Pet
Too much responsibility at this stage. Lots of love available without
buying cat food.

Beautiful Stationery
I'm into funny postcards, myself. Keep a stack to surprise people with.

Comfort Food
I wrote the cookbook on this. Really. Called "Our Foremothers'
Cookbook". My mom and I put it together several years ago from recipes
going back to my great-great grandmothers.

Pedicure
Should do this more often.

Fun Class
Always learning, always teaching. Fun never ends for me.

Great Handbag
Got the organized down; a bit slack in the "stunning" department.

Professional Housecleaning
Absolutely! Even had it at one point living in a one-bedroom apartment.
An absolute necessity when I was running a business, raising 3 boys,
and toting Olympic-Development soccer kids around the country.

Indulgent Soaps
I have a rule: Only one in storage at a time. The rest get used by me!

For those women who can pull it off, I would add an LBD to that list.

Yep, up, down, stylish and dowdy (just add those pearls) all in one
dress.

#29 of 39 by keesan on Wed Aug 8 20:12:19 2007:

I do not use: babysitter (no kids), jewelry, flowers, perfume, pantyhose,
stationery, soap (we use single-ingredient shampoo). We have a washing
machine and own nothing that needs drycleaning. The hard part of
housecleaning is to get things off the floor, not to clean the floor. You
cannot pay someone to put things where you want them. Portrait = digital
camera. I bought two suits for a wedding that should last a lifetime (already
25 years old). I am quite capable of clipping my own toenails. My 'handbag'
is a backpack (which I bought new a while back).

Sindi has her needs and luxeries covered, that's a good thing. The
list/needs are a bit more basic than some people, but that's ok.

I covered my basic stuff that I have right now. It would change
somewhat if I was financially better off. But I'm trying to make due
[and change my mindset in the process] with what I have. It's a matter
of learning what I can live without and still enjoy life without having
to go back to work [returning to work is NOT an option for me--unless it
was an occasional thing like babysitting, dog sitting, doing some
photography for others, doing scrapbooking and other craft classes
--though I usually do this one for free].

Great Bra
Yeah. I really need good bras. I have several great ones. They cost a
lot. They are worth it. I also have some especially comfortable ones
made by a company called Unbra (or something like that) that are
handmade in the USA. They are light support bras that I wear around the
house. They are VERY comfortable and last for years.

Breast Exam or Mammogram
I do the breast exam thing but haven t ever had a mammogram. I ll
probably get my first one next year when I turn 40

Babysitter
I have a dog sitter!

One Classic Necklace
I just don t wear jewelry so I don t have a classic necklace. It
doesn t bother me in the least. I don t have kids so I ll never have a
great granddaughter to appreciate it.

One Classic Suit
I have thought about getting a suit but haven t really ever had a need
for one.

Portrait
A good idea. I had one done informally by a friend a few years ago and
love it. I should see about getting another.

Great Pair of Sneakers
I have a pair but they need to be replaced. I hate shoe shopping
though.

Last Will and Testament
I keep meaning to do this but haven t bothered. The thing is that if I
die without a will, I don t really care who gets my millions so I
haven t had a lot of motivation in this area. The only reason I would
even do anything is that it would make the probate process easier.

Flowers
I buy flowers for myself from time to time. It is always fun.

Favorite Charity
Grex!

Journal
I have a blog. I suppose that counts.

Massage
I get them from time to time from a friend who is a massage therapist.
I should get them more often. My former therapist really thought I
needed regular massage because I have issues about being touched. That
is pretty much why I don t get them. That, and money.

Mutual Fund
I have a 401k but that s it at the moment.

Dry Cleaner/Laundry
I just don t buy clothes that need to be dry cleaned. I think going to
the dry cleaners is a huge pain in the ass.

Your Own Toolbox
I have a *really* big one. I call it The Basement.

Great Haircut
I have been getting my hair cut by this one woman who is awesome.
Unfortunately, she is in Sebastopol Ca and my friends who used to live
there are moving to France for a while so I wont have an opportunity to
get back there for a while. I need to find someone in Ypsilanti I
guess.

Beautiful Scents
Yeah. I like to burn candles sometimes. I use some soaps scented with
essential oils. I really cant do artificial scents though as they
sometimes give me a headache.

Digital Camera
I LOVE my digital camera. It is wearing out. I am going to have to
replace it. Unfortunately, I just don t have the money though. But I
did promise myself years ago that if I ever got an undergraduate
degree, I would buy myself a nice camera and then take some photography
lessons. I still plan to do that.

Great Pantyhose
I absolutely refuse to wear pantyhose ever again.

Globe
I don t need one usually but whenever I feel that I must look at one, I
go to the library.

A Pet
I have a cat and a bird and a dog. They definitely enrich my life.

Beautiful Stationery
I have all kinds of notecards and post cards and such. I try to make
sure I have a supply of stamps onhand too.

Comfort Food
I have all kinds of comfort food around most of the time. My favorite
of the moment is tea and toast with jam.

Pedicure
I have never had one. Maybe I should.

Fun Class
I think I like less formal learning for the most part but I am thinking
about taking a photography class.

Great Handbag
I wouldn t call my handbag stunning. But it is a really good quality
Coach bag. It was worth the investment for sure. Plus I got a good
price on it at the Coach outlet store. The style I have is usually over
$300 and I got mine for under $200

Professional Housecleaning
I keep toying with this. I think that one of my goals of better
financial management might be to reward myself with some regular
professional housecleaning.

Indulgent Soaps
That is all I have.

For those women who can pull it off, I would add an LBD to that list.

For what it is worth, I think that every woman can pull of the little
black dress although I suppose that when a woman is my size it could be
more accurately called a big black dress. But seriously, a cocktail
length black dress *is* a good thing to have in the wardrobe. I don t
currently have one myself although I have something similar in a dark
burgundy color.

I plain ol' don't like wearing dresses; I'm not at all comfortable
wearing one. So I have maybe one or two in the back of the closet that
I've worn in the past for things like interviews. And I'm not sure if
they fit right now [as my weight fluctuates]. So, going somewhere that
might warrant the LBD, I'll wear my black pants and a black sweater or
top.

Lynne, do go take a photography class; it'll be so much fun and will
get your creative juices going. [And if/when you do, let me know about
it, maybe I'll do the class with you! I haven't taken any here in MI if
ya don't count the 1 semester class I took in HS. There was a cool
art council in Durham that had a number of photo classes [other art
related ones, too, of course.]

I have heard that the photography classes at Washtenaw are pretty good.
I will certainly let you know if I decide to sign up for one though!

[Or if you-and/or anyone else-ever want to go out on shooting
expeditions, let me know. Or to share some of the things we've already
done. I used to be in a meet-up group where sometimes we'd have a
particular ''homework'' assignment based on a particular theme/idea and
then we'd share what we've done w/in that theme. A cool way to get
ideas and other people's interpretation of something specific.

Sure. I have gone on some fun shooting expeditions before and certainly
enjoyed them.

Ask kevinrenner about WCC Photography. He has an Associates in
Photographic Technology that he got there.

Cool; I'd love to learn more about it. And have looked at the course
listings in their catalog. Would love to go through one of their photo
programs if I had the $$ for it [though I haven't yet looked into the
possibility of financial aid yet].

Perhaps it could be re-training for a new job.

That, too, would be cool. :-)
