Grex Enigma Item 117: My Philosophy.........
Entered by chris on Mon Apr 26 01:22:49 UTC 1993:

1 - Universal truth is a myth. Everyone has their own religion.
I'll search untill I find what works for me.

2 - Love is a myth. People do "kind" things for one of three
reasons: they expect something in return, they do it to
make themselves feel good, or they'er just playin' with
you're head. When someone says they love you, they mean "I
love what you do for me." or "I love the way you make me
feel." There is no committment anymore....look at America's
    divorce rate.

3 - Lasting happiness is a myth. One can enjoy isolated
things for a certain time, but eventually, happiness gets
crushed under the weight of reality.

4 - Forgiveness is a myth. The only reason a person will
"forgive" another is to maintain the relationship they
have with that person. The only reason they wish to
maintain that relationship is to keep recieving whatever
it is they desire from that person.

        I haven't always felt this way, and I don't know that I
always will, but for now, this philosophy of mine seems to
explain a lot of things. Some of you are probably jumping up
and down and screaming, "NO!! that's not true!" That's fine,
that's your opinion. This is my truth, not necessarily
yours. I understand that this is a pretty pessemistic
outlook, but life, experiences, and observation have taught
me these things. I guess it's hard to have a good attitude
when things aren't good. I suppose that's why point three of
my philosophy makes sense to me.
I guess I just submitted this to see what other people
thought of it. So, give me a response. Thanks for reading,
and I hope that I'll have the some opportunity to understand you.

I used to feel that way too. Then I discovered Nordic-Trac! Yes,
Nordic-Trac, the tunnel which once connected Denmark and Sweden.
Just going through there three times a week makes all the difference!
I look and feel better, and have mastered the four elements.

(Then again, maybe you shouldn't have entered it in this conference. >8)

Yes! I have the nordic trac rowing machine and rowing between Denmark
and Sweden is a great workout. And with all that exercise, you can
eat all the lutefisk you want once you get to Sweden.

So, what conference should I enter this in if I hope to get a serious
response? Not that I don't appreciate the humor, but I really am looking
for a serious conference. thank you.

Try the "reality" conference. They need a good dose of cynicism
over there. :) (seriously!)

Yeah, "reality" would be your best bet, or if you let me rewrite
it just a little, I could put it in "sci-fi".

Actually, "synthesis" might be appropriate too.

okay, thanx for the suggestions, I'm new to this and it's refreshing to
find such helpful people. Thank you again.

You can also put it in the zen conference, although zen and reality
are due to merge sooner or later.

I thought they merged many centuries ago.

What is really your point, chris?

I agree with #0, it's reality. Everything we know about another is by what
they do. Call me a behavioralist, but love is nothing but far-sighted self
interest.
