For discussions of do-it-yourself computer repairs, maintenance and modifications.

This subject is also covered extensively in the hardware and micros conferences.
Yeah, what Rane said. Come over to Micros, I'm the f-w.
I was trying to lure computer-related things out of 'What I did'. Any ideas on how to get a 5 1/4 inch floppy drive attached to a PS/2 machine that will both read and write? Jim thinks it is incompatible. IBM did not want people changing their basic setup.
I bought a CD-ROM drive. Well, it was a present from my Mom. Now, I have to take possession of it, and install it, which shouldn't be a big deal.
This is the item for discussing installations of CD-ROM drives and other computer hardware, so that people looking for specific information can find it faster. (Omni?)
Still will not link it. If you know any of my history, I don't link things. Linking tends to cut the soul out of the conferences. As for the drive, now that I have done it, it's not a big deal to do. It's a matter of getting the IDE thing correct, that and knowing how to install the drivers without killing the autoexec.bat and config.sys files.
We may ask for your help if we ever get that modern at Kiwanis. THere is a pentium board that should be made into a machine some time soon, before it is obsolete. Omni, I was not asking you to link the item, but to use it for computer hardware discussions so other people could find your contributions.
Lots of do-it-yourself computer discussions in hardware and micros. There, they are separated by topics (as items), rather than a catch-all item like this, where it will be difficult to find things later.
Having a separate item here keeps computer hardware topics separate from discussions of noncomputer hardware. Or is supposed to, at least.
As you wish, but don't forget to participate in the items in hardware and micros if you like to work on computer stuff yourself.
Sindi, you can always link items the other way.
I'm always wiling to help with a computer issue. It can be difficult to find me, but feel free to ask me in email if I'm away from the conferences again.
