Grex Cyberpunk Item 95: NETWORK SECURITY EXPLORATION "GAME"

NETWORK SECURITY EXPLORATION
An exploration of Network Security is being held at
http://www.happyhacker.org.  Though this is listed as a Hacker Wargame, it
is very educational.  For instance, I'm using the game to test my Satellite
Security theory (which I can explain should anyone care to e-mail me.) Just
thought I'd let everyone know.

Speaking of Happy Hacker, has anyone actually read Meinel's book? I had heard
enough bad things about her before, but I read that embarrasment of an article
she wrote for Scientific American, and I just couldn't believe that people
took her seriously after that. The actual concept of having a "legal" hackable
system set up strikes me as a reasonable idea though... And hey - why not post
this Satellite Security theory out here for all of us to read - while it might
mean more criticism, it'll also mean a theory that has been better reviewed.

        Hi, somehow there has been a little error.  I dont know if i can get
it through to the people at happyhacker.org can get it through their heads
that the word "war-" and "hacker" dont mix well at all.
whatever happened to hacking out of curiosity - not war?
though i might tire or bore you with this preaching ethics, i might as well
clear up the misconception.

        As for sat hacking it is the wave of the future, for a better exp. read
the article in KV (keen veracity) that optiklenz wrote.

        Happy hacker is about "harmless hacking" isnt all REAL hacking
harmless.
I am not refering to the mindless html alterization that we have been seeing.

I actually read the Happy Hacker's Guide to harmless hacking...the had some
good stuff, but I too thought the Idea of having a system made for hacking
was a kewl idea!

I am very new at this and am currently reading that guide and it seems to have
some good info about getting started.  We all have to start somewhere.

If you want a system made for hacking.  You might as wel get red hat linux
because its the most buggy thing ive seen(aside from irix, but thats not a big
dbecause irix is the most advanced os out there. It wont take you too long to
find and bugs in red hat. here are some that you might want to take to mind. 
rpc.mountd rpc.mountd is vulnerable to a remote buffer overflow. imapd  also
vulnerable to a remote buffer overflow xterm is a local hazard.   word perfect
is a temp race problem. That about concludes my post i hope you patch these
"new" exploits. THis should be both helpful to the admin or the would be

Well I think that Happyhacker is  nothing but a bait for those cluless newbee

but that's good because that's how they learn
