Robots are awesome. That is a biased opinion though, since i am a robot ;) Robotics will revolutionize our world.
Revolutionize... Are you waiting in this ervoluton and what do you wait from it? I'm really interesting in this topic couse I'm researcher of AI. If you'll see it in a shop, you'll get it at home... How you will lok to it? Maybe you will give him name... Maybe you'll call HIM stupid iron peace. Will you see to it like to a human?
Robotics in itself is no problem, untill one can create robots which can think, once AI is far enough. I then hope that people are wise enough to create robots who can think only in the good way, unlike people, who are pure evil. Yet here you see something which is impossible, I doubt humans can creat or would accept something better then themselfs. The only difference between us and robots would then be the power. As one robot could defeat a bunch of people easily. If AI gets that far, I hope only good minded people are able to create it, if not, we're in a bunch of shit ... from a technological point robots with great AI are great. From a moral point of view I doubt any real use of them.
Aaron, robotics can think today believe me. I was researching AI for 12 years and I feel I'm over the problem. I'm interesting what will they do? A problem: Where they will take knowlenge? From anywhere! what do you see anywhere? This is the war and evil... TV, Radio and even in owr life... They will study. And later people ask... Why? why they are killing as? In this I'm INTERESTING! I think MAY I create one who can study fron anywhere himself or only what I will teach... You can see this question just after watching the world... It's angree... Another one... Who will be interesting first? Hehe! Fighting human! People ala fan of the war... Kinda! I've done some things for my private using but they are good... I'm controllling their knowledge. They keeping clearance in my flat. This is just one problem they have and when I do it (clearance) they are watching. And stealing my experience. But when I watching how they do it without me I'm in some terrible... More then quick!!! And I'm thinking... what will be if I will study them to fight? At last... What a thing you can study 'em? I hope not a war? ;-)
The field of robotics is a thing of beauty. I see robots as a way to better experience the world and as a way to vastly further the world of science. I mean, we would not have pictures or mineral samples from Mars if it were not for robotics, and the medical world would not be where it is today without robotics either. It is inevitable that robotics will be used for combat, epsecially by the U.S. because the U.S. goverment speaks only two languages: money and war. However, even though robotics will be (and already are!) used for warfare, the science world will benefit much more. The most important thing to remember is that robots will never have humanity, because they are not living.
2 Metallus Pritcher: Yes, it will be used for war. For terrible war. U. S., Russia and China. Do you feel it? Not only U.S. research robotics, genetics and nanotechnologies. Please read Bill Joy's letter, Sun co-founder. http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/8.04/joy.html This is the problem I mean. And you've wrote one think... "The most important thing to remember is that robots will never have humanity, because they are not living. It's not true... They can do but another consciousness. They just a set of targets and functions to realize targets. Result makes another target and this is machine. Cycled machine as we are, people. They can do but have no engine for now. Maybe it is ready and working for someone? For U.S. government (just guess)? We are closed-eyes people... We should be VERY HIGH technologist to understand this, to open our eyes... People need men like Bill Joy so much as possible. They can safe humanity. Or just try to do it...
On another note, have any of you seen the Repliee Q1 android? Interesting stuff. I think the main site is AndroidScience(.com)
Thank you for the link, Matt Ford
