Grex Coop Item 37: For non local users? [frozen]

I would like to know what ideas people would have about bringing in some 
events for non local users. I would be an example of this being from 
ottawa. I often see local events and meet and greets when I log in and was 
wondering if anyone would be interested in posting chat/conference 
"events" and posting them in a similar way, with a specific date/time as 
to when the event would occur. I like it here but sometimes I feel a 
little alienated and it would not be anyones fault really, and it would 
bring the grex community a little closer I would think. I believe we would 
have to space these events fairly far apart to make sure a greater number 
of grex users would have a chance to know about the event (a month or 2 
apart? longer?) and I think a single point of contact for the event would 
be good, just in case. Ideas? Suggestions?

Go for it!

Start an item in Agora which has a heading Meet Up In Ottawa or something like
that.  Or Toronto, or whatever.  Set a time and a date, and a place.  If
someone says, "Oh, I'd love to come but I can't make it September 5, then
start negotiating.  

Rather than a single point of contact, I've found that an Agora item allows
the information to stay in one place, where anyone can find it at any time.

You might want to get some of your friends involved with Grex and use this
as a way to get them all together.

If I understood correctly, I believe Eric was referring to "virtual" events.
In other words, events that take place here on grex, in party or bbs, for
example.  Am I correct, Eric?

Yep, that's what I understood from Eric's post, too.  That sounds like a
cool idea.  Perhaps  set up general topics for each online event?
[Though I'm sure people would drift from the  intitial topic for
discussion, though and the specific topics may be better off as postings
in  general or other specific conferences.

[And speaking of other specific conferences here on Grex, I'd love to
see many of them  become more active again... I occasionally will post
in those conferences, hoping to get  some conversations rolling again,
but it often doesn't work.  Perhaps I need to be better  at posting
these conferences in the item in agora.  :-)  And just maybe a few
people might  check out the conferences and maybe even browse through
the items and even restart  some of the items or creating new items.]
