Last November, janc resigned from the Board of Directors. At the Board's most recent meeting, they decided to hold a special election, as soon as possible, to replace janc. Accordingly, nominations are now open for a Director, to serve until December 31, 2008, the end of janc's term. Note that this period is less than six months, so the person elected will still be eligible for two full terms of their own. Nominations will close at midnight, EDT, on September 29, 2008. The polls will open at 00:01 EDT, on October 1, 2008, and remain open for two weeks, until 23:59 EDT, October 14, 2008. To be valid, a nomination must be accepted in this item by the nominee, but the nomination does not need a second. Self-nominations are allowed and will be interpreted as also accepting the nomination. Nominations must be accepted by 1700 EDT, September 30, 2008, to allow time to confirm the list of nominees before opening the polls at midnight. Only members of Cyberspace, Inc, are eligible for Directorships, so nominees must also make sure that their dues are current by the time the polls open on October 1. While any one may cast a ballot, only the ballots of members will be counted for the election. The voteadm will probably count the non-members' votes and report their results as well.

I nominate cdalten and soup.
I'm not a member, dude. I nominate twinkie, triluda, cdalten, remmers, slynne, cross, jules, trex, styles, hera, chamberl, keesan, polytarp, scholar, cyklone, jerryr and your mom.
Jim, pull a Chuck Martin and ask the grex community to fork over the $6 dollars month.
I also decline the nomations because 1)That piece of shit Chuck Martin is still on here. 2)I work 60 hours a week at nambla.org, I mean ofoto.com. In addition, I have to start the graduate school process in a few more months. Which leads to me point 3. 3)I'll be soon running out of hours in the day.
...and there was much rejoicing. I decline since, uh, I'm already on the board.
I decline but appreciate that sincere nomination.
I decline, because the Grex membership doesn't like me, and losing a Grex election would only add to my shameful secrets.
the grex "membership" can kiss my ass I renominate you anyway
i nominate furs and Time magazine.
re 3 I actually wouldn't mind giving 6 bucks to become a member. However, I'd pull a Chuck Martin in that I would require Grex to waive the ID requirement for all memberships. Then I'd want the staff to restore the items that valerie deleted from the parenting conference (without her responses, of course). But uh. This is Grex, after all.
Those items aren't the only ones that are missing
Uhh...I had to provide ID. What are you talking about?
That's the point. I'm opposed to the unfounded and unlucky rule that requires Grex members to provide ID to become a member. I think it's a deterrent to potential members as well.
Jim, please don't bait the broke ass fucker. And just for the record, I still wouldn't consider hiring chuck martin to do any kind of technical work for ofoto.com.
The reason for providing ID has something to do with accountability. Paid members get outbound ssh/telnet access and could do damage elsewhere. Also providing ID prevents people from purchasing multiple memberships and thus voting more than once.
People can get outbound telnet/SSH access from an internet cafe much easier and more cheaply. I'm also pretty sure nobody would pay more money to vote twice on an issue. There are ways of verifying if an account is a pseudo.
I nominate polygon, and gelinas. I also second naftee's nomination of remmers, jules, trex, styles, chamberl, scholar, cyklone, jerryr, and your mom.
And add glenda to the nominations aa well.
The nominations close in two days, and we've yet to have one accepted.
I nominate,cyklone,rcurl,edina and bellstar
I nominate lar with extreme prejudice
I was wrong yesterday: Nominations close at midnight, tonight. Still no acceptances, though.
I nominate tod.
I second tod.
gee .....
I nominate tsty.
I nominate jvmv
I think we are going to have to look at shrinking the board, to respond to the loss of members. We're about at the point where one would need close to 20% of the membership to serve on the board, and that's unrealistic.
I would 'volunteer' to run (accept nomination) if grex still met at Zingerman's or some place else near central Ann Arbor.
I think shrinking the board is a good idea. I also think that fewer meetings would be a good idea too.
Would current board members be interested to meet via some type of internet chat session?
I think that is a good idea.
Me too.
Since no one (including me) actually accepted their nomination, the special election is cancelled. Let's hope there is more enthusiasm for the regular election in December. I'll start a new item for discussion of the ideas raised in the last few responses.
