Grex Consumer Item 86: Good Yoga teacher wanted [linked]
Entered by headdoc on Sat Aug 30 16:00:51 UTC 1997:

I am thinking of starting to take some lessons in Yoga. (That means I am not
yet ready to make it a lifetime committment). But I would like to learn from
someone who really knows what they are doing, and is kind to people who are
older and less flexible. Has anyone on Grex has a really good experience
learning and doing Yoga and where did that take place?

Try Laurie Blakeney 663 7612. She's been an Iyengar yoga instructor for at
least 15 years, goes to India regularly to train with him, and is an *older*
woman herself. She's great.

Now, instead of letting this item die after answering the
original question, how about explaining what yoga is, what
its benefits are, and how much time and energy it takes to
participate meaningfully? Thanks.

Yoga is originated from Sanskrit Word 'yuj' means to join. It is
basicall explored by Rishi Patanjali and given a brief stepwise 'ASHTANGAYOGA
is a sanskrit word means a yoga who has eight body parts.

These eight parts are I will tell in Original Names as well as in
Translated way also so that u can better understand.
1) Yama 2) Niyama 3) Asana 4) Pranayama
5) Pratyahara 6) Dharana 7) Dhyana 8) Samadhi

These are the steps of Rajyoga prescribed by the Patanjali Rishi.
