Grex Consumer Item 74: Bad Fast Food Experiences
Entered by mta on Thu Aug 22 01:44:58 UTC 1996:

I thought I mention that I have had consistently bad service from the
McDonalds restaurant on State Street near the Airport. I have almost never
gotten everything I ordered, I've gotten cold sandwiches and fries and warm
softdrinks ... I've been told (after making the ordering clerk repeat the
order -- they often don't) that I didn't order or pay for something, so I
can't have it.

But today, today really took the loaf!! I got a salad so old that the eggs
had green coats!!! I'd been persisting because it's the fastest thing on my
way to work when I'm in a hurry -- but this was too much!

I'm not going there again. (I only eat that sort of food when I'm in a *big*
hurry) I suggest that you not eat there either unless you have time to go
in and inspect your meal carefully in front of the clerk.

I was at the Taco Bell on Stadium and I had ordered 1 burrito with NO beans.
The burrito came back twice with beans on it. I figured that since they were
not listening, I'd do better to bounce the burrito of the manager's head. I
did, and finally got what I wanted no charge, with apology. Sometimes
stupidity has to be radically dealt with.

The State street McD's is notorious for that. What you should have done,
Misti is parked your car, then LOUDLY ask for the manager and show them the
green eggs, and demand saticfaction. I will not eat there.

I've had OK food but terrible service at McD's in the last couple of years.
Usually I'll be in a drive-thru kind of situation, and end up spending 15
minutes in the drive-thru line! Quicker to walk inside. These days I don't
bother with McDonalds any more.

I will say that the Stadium Mc D's is not too bad in the mornings. I used
to visit them a little after 7am and never really had a wait. And the one in
romulus on Wayne Rd is good as well.
I'm still pissed at Rally's though.

My all-time "favorite" worst McD's (the one that used to be on Maynard)
is now closed, so I guess wishes do sometimes come true. From what I've
read here so far it looks like the fast food places are really slipping in
quality of service (and food). This might be attributable to the increase
in rudeness and inconsiderateness among the young that has been noted
recently in the AA News. I recall much of their anectdotal evidence was
in a fast food setting. Is it just getting very difficult to get good
help at McD's wages? Some of the people behind the counter are just
unbelievably rude. My expectations have been unfortunately lowered as
a result. Consequently I eat more often at non-fast food places, though
I far too often brave a FF place because of the need to eat in a rush.

Ann Arbor is a *tough* place to hire entry level workers. There just aren't
enough for the wages.

In an NPR news report today, Ann Arbor had the worst "housing affordability"
in the Midwest.

I usually won't stand for those prepackaged salads. They are always ancient.

Rental units in Ann Arbor vary greatly with location.
Near campus, property values are high because rents can
be very high. You can usually get a much nicer apartment for much less money
by renting on the outskirts of town. On the whole, though, it is much more
expensive than many other cities the same size. I'm not surprised to hear that
result from NPR.

I'm guessing there must be a big difference in how clean McDonald's men's and
women's bathrooms are.

Actually I have found Mickey D's mens rooms to be better than most you find
when on the road. Nothing spectacular, though.

When I use a men's room, I am not seeking the spectacular.

McD on Plymouth usually good for fast food. Rest room generally clean.
McD on the road usually among most reliable for cleanliness among
fast food places.

The Taco Bell near South U. has been consistently suspect in the food
department in my last few visits over the past year. What are they
adding to or using in place of beef there? It definitely tastes
different from the tacos at other Taco Bells.

re 12.2 Collies. They switched from Greyhounds about 2 months ago ;)

re 13 I have only used the womens room once and that was at City Hall when
I was in dire need. Nothing spectacular, and I wasn't exactly seeking it. ;)
It was OK with the police, so nothing happened, except I was embarrassed.

Geez. The things you miss when don't check in every day.
