Grex Consumer Item 49: Software prices
Entered by mcpoz on Sun Nov 26 15:41:16 UTC 1995:

Does anyone have a recommendation for the best price on software? I recently
priced some software at egghead for $83 and found it listed in "pc computing"
for $49. Is there a reasonable priced outlet local to Ann Arbor?

Egghead is Ok if you get their discount card, which is free. Best Buy tends
to have a good selection with good prices as well. (I'm occasionally surpised
at what Best Buy carries)

I usually go to Mac Warehouse, or Mac's Place.

I look at several places (ie. all of the above). Often one place will do
nicely on one item and be outrageous on another. Mail order gives you a
break on sales tax...

Egghead software is generally ridiculously overpriced, unless some-
thing's on sale there - watch carefully - when you can get an actual bargain.
If you're looking for deeply discounted software the record and media stores
in Briarwood mall often have older, bargain-priced software - I managed to
get a day planner *and* Windows voice recognition software at Record Town for
eleven dollars earlier this year.

I just bought "Printshop Deluxe for Mac" from Best Buy for $49.95 and it was
essentially the same price in the "mac" mail order catalog (forget the catalog
name).
