Grex Comics Item 69: (Carson! reviews the Electric Girl TPB)
Entered by carson on Mon Mar 12 03:41:55 UTC 2001:

(during my last trip to Chicago, I picked up a copy of the Electric
Girl TPB; you can learn more about the series at www.electricgirl.com.
it's created by Michael Brennan and self-published through Mighty Gremlin.)

(the basics: it's the story of Virginia, who was born with the ability to
generate electricity thanks to her invisible gremlin companion Oogleeoog,
who exists primarily to cause mischief in general. Virginia lives at
home with her father and pet dog Blammo [named by Oogleeoog in a hilarious
ventroliquist sequence]. her parents are married, but her mother is away
from home for long periods on business.)

(although Virginia has a "super power", her ability to generate electricity
is more of an afterthought than the whole story. the real treat is the
interplay between Virginia and Oogleeoog and the general mischief that
ensues. at times the relationship is strained, but the reader sees that
Oogleeoog, despite the trouble he causes, does care for Virginia. this is
best shown in the story where Oogleeoog tries to keep a young Virginia from
being abducted while at the same time dealing with a rulebook-carrying imp
who's "just here to enforce the rules", namely preventing Oogleeoog from
"explicitly" warning Virginia. this story was in the fourth issue and
also helps to show the growth in storytelling.)

(Electric Girl has been praised in other books such as Supernatural Law
and Action Girl Comics, but I admittedly only picked it up because the
TPB looks attractive. it's a fairly thick, light cyan with the logo and
and a graphic of Virginia, Oogleeoog and Blammo on the cover. plus, it
was only $9.95, which frankly is a steal.)

(there have been six issues in the series so far, with the first four
[and a bonus story!] collected in the TPB. a seventh issue is scheduled
for release later this year.)

(this is ideal for all ages, and for fans of humorous situations featuring
well-developed characters. this gets my highest recommendation.)
