What comics are you currently collecting?

Maybe THIS will get people talking.

Keep in mind that what I WOULD be buying and AM buying are 
based on the infrequency of my visiting comic shops.

What I'm reading:
Avengers
Iron Man
Thunderbolts
Avengers Forever Mini-Series
(yeah, I'm a Busiek fan)
I WOULD buy Astro City, but i'm never in places that sell it :(

Deadpool 
X-Men (until Joe Kelly leaves..)
Heroes For Hire (until cancellation)
Wolverine (when Erik Larsen starts anyway..)
Thor (my first real exposure to the character.. not sure how I feel yet)
Marvel Universe (soon to be canceled)
Generation X (I don't know why anymore.. bad habit)

i'm probably forgetting some, but that means posting again!! woo-hoo!

i also pick up various back issues (Avengers, Gruenwald Cap, Quasar)

I know I'm a mainly Marvel reader, but it's what I'm familiar with..

I'm currently collecting absolutely nothing =)
But every now and then I get an X-men just to catch up =)

college has been keeping me away from comics a lot..

I believe that I am on a mission to collect everything that Slave Labor has
ever put out <grin>. I am missing one issue of_Johnny the Homicidal Maniac_.
That irritates me. I am also working on a collection of _Kilroy (is here)_.
One of the best ways to start a collection is to go to a well-stocked comic
store and browse the independents. I like DC and such, but it is usually
surprising what you find. Oh BTW - if you get a chance, check out _The Girl
Who Would Be Death_. It's on Vertigo. Kind of vampire-y, but the art is really

i know several Slave Labor nuts :P

Ahhh... I am not a nut <grins>. I am a legume. Ah well. Actually, it just
seems to be one of the most well-rounded independents. Actually, come to think
of it - I went to the Chicago ComiCon in 1996 and @ lo and behold Dan Vado
and Jhonen Vasquez sat right before me. My boyfriend and I (between the 7 foot
drag queen and Lady Death) managed to shove up to the table and talk to them
for a while. Vasquez the most, tho. Dan was busy peddling his wares. All JCV
said (a LOT of times) were words to the effect of: please buy my comic book.
Johnny is a new comic book. Buy it because I have no food. Please buy my comic
book. I will sign your comic book. A lot of times. He looked sad. And that
is how my little obsession with SLG began. We are putting food in their mouths
dotcha know ;).

ahh.. so a "fFeed the Creators" campaign is what it takes.. hmmm ;)

I think the "He/she looks pathetic so lets give him/her money" thing works
better. I wish people would give me money. Then I can self-publish <grin>.
I need to build on what I have, though. Since I am at college in a dorm built
like a Turkish prison cell, there is zero room for anything other than the
measly supplies I can fit into my *full* closet/shelves. I am hoping to put
out a little something of my comics "BlackBird" and "Big Head Ghost Boy". Heh.
Long story. To put them BOTH short, Black Bird is a semi-militant, generation
X crow that wears big glasses and spouts political fluff. =) Sigh. IT is based
on nate (a friend) that is a story in himself. The other is just like it
sounds... too lazy to type am I. If it is that interesting, email me.

i have been tossing around comic book ideas for quite a while..
if anything comes of it.. sadly doubtful.. i am also in a small college dorm
room

hrmmm..

yeah, I have a friend who was involved in producing comic book art, but
nothing came of it, as of yet.

i can't draw.. i just write occasionally.. *shrug*

well, that's a start

what i really need to do is make myself sit down for an hour several times a
week and just write solid with no distractions, but there's this thing called
homework...

I totally feel for you on the work thing. Finals in a week. <INSERT grimace
here>... I think that you just have to consciously set aside time... or
procrastinate like me. I am the queen of procrastination. With my two
drawing/writing projects, I just work on them when I can...or until i think
about the whole *grades* thing. ;)  And I am collaborating currently with my
boyfriend on a story called "Dawn of Innocent" <--------horrendous working
title. I have had the main body done for a long time, but it is always being
redone. Unfortunately, Jason is an art major so he has a lot of things to do,
too. Those silly illustration majors.

So then... 
off to procrastinate and watch "Hairspray."

i'm an english and theatre major and grades are a MAJOR concern for me
right now.. i'm seriously worried..

I always fall back on my mommy. Hehe. My parents always tell me that they are
there for me and they just want me to do the best that I can do... which
really halps me to do better. But that's best-case scenario..it doesnt mean
that I am not failing algebra.

By the way... I know the store is a little er... well its like the Gap for
the Goth ;) and those into Wu Wear... but if you have a Hot Topic near you,
they're selling a multitude of Slave Labor Postcards. Mostly vasquez stuff
but my little eye spied a Milk'N'Cheese there a while back. 

Just a little snippet of wisdom from a friend that is PROUD to say she isnt
goth. Heh.

Is Cerebus still in black and white?

I've been encouraging Julie to get the rest of the "Akira" story..I haven't
read much of anything recent and I don't care..

Cerebus is still in B&W.

What I have of Akira is right in the middle.  I don't know where I would 
go to actually get the whole story.

I'd rather have all the Ranma 1/2 books, myself.

There are collected volumes of Akira, but they're prohibitively expensive
($40 a volume, I think) and Vol. 1 isn't even available. 

I'd rather have Ranma 1/2 too. At least that way,I know I can buy all of the
volumes. IMO, Inu Yasha is an even better series than Ranma.

Completely getting off of the subject, did anyone go to the Stardust signing
by Neil Gaiman in Ann Arbor? Borders, methinks. My *wonderful* boyfriend went
and had I believe Stardust, Snow,Glass,Apples and his sketchbook signed. Sigh.
I wish that I could have been there he said it was excellent *and* that he
read from the book.

I went to the Neil Gaiman signing as well. I loved getting the chance to
finally meet the man. He read from his new novel Stardust, answered several
questions, and then did the book signing. He signed my copies of Stardust and
Neverwhere. He also drew a little sketch for a freind of mine who couldn't
make it. He's a very nice, sociable man.

A friend introduced me to "Strangers In Paradise," an underground comic. 
 I may subscribe to it-- the storyline is fantastic and the author 
sometimes uses full text in storyline or drama script format for more in 
depth detail.  Unconventional, and very original :)

From the reviews of the comic, Gaiman seems to have given his approval 
to the series, speaking of him, anyway.

I cannot recommend "Strangers In Paradise" enough. It is the best comic I have
ever read IMO. Buy the graphic novels. It's worth it.

If you would like to try other comics with full text in storyline or drama
script format, try Poison Elves, Thieves and Kings, and Galaxion. All of these
comics have great stories and use these formats on occasion.

My wife loved this comic as well.  Our friend allowed us to read right 
up to the most recent issue.  Since she started after the series 
started, she bought the first novel.  However, I really like some of the 
comic book covers, and I know very often the graphic novels don't have 
them..oh well..what am I going to miss?

If I remember right, the graphic novels of SIP include B&W copies of the
original covers. I know it's not the same as the original color covers, but
at least they're included. The SIP GNs also don't include the color sequences
from Vol.1 #2 and the first Image issue.

Speaking of comic covers, DC published a collection of the Dave McKean covers
of Sandman. Now I won't feel too bad if I have to part with the original
issues. The covers are works of art on their own.

My boyfriend and I went to Apparitions comics and books on 28th street in
GRapids yesterday and bought dustcovers AND the cages hardcover... over 60
dollars, methinks... but kitchen sink went Out of business and so we had to
snag it... last copy in the store.

BTW - i think i added another monthly. Actually, it was only a 2-book series
but it is called 'tongue lashing' and well, the story line is really hard to
follow... a lot of "special" words... but the art is pretty good.

That's all... back to psychology class. Wa-hoo.
