Grex Comics Item 30: Wanted: Action Figures
Entered by pez on Mon Sep 2 15:07:34 UTC 1996:

If any of you have some old action figures sitting around you don't need and
will part with cheaply. Let me know. I am especially interested in He-Man and
the Masters of the Universe toys. Thank you. :)

While we're on the subject... Does anybody have a Maxx action figure (from
McFarlane Toys) that they'd be willing to sell?

#3 of 47 by biohazar on Fri Dec 6 09:34:17 1996:

I don't need a Maxx anymore, but I'd like to tell everybody that there is a
Spawn toys club where you can get deals on backorders and a newsleter... check
out the web site for more info. http://www.mcfarlane.com

McFarlane Toys are expanding their toy line to non-superhero toys... Coming
soon within the next couple months is a four figure Monster line. This
includes a full dicterium with all the backgrounds... McFarlane Toys will also
do the KISS toys based on the band coming out this June. These figure are so
close to the real band it's scary!

#17 of 47 by otaking on Mon Mar 17 12:55:16 1997:

The Monster line looks awesome! I've seen pictures of the prototypes.
Two figures and a detailed background for $10-$15. That's a bargain!

#18 of 47 by dbassman on Wed Mar 26 22:48:53 1997:

I must admit, the monster toys did look cool from what I saw at the MOTOR CITY
COMIC CON last weekend in Novi. I got to meet Todd's Dad, Bob.

#19 of 47 by otaking on Thu Mar 27 12:57:32 1997:

The Spawn Series 8 pictures at MOTOR CITY COMIC CON looked really good too.
Also, the head of the McFarlane Toy Fan Club confirmed the price of the
Monster line will be $10 per set. Hopefully, they'll consider my idea of
Bag O' Nutniks. They're cool!

#20 of 47 by bio on Fri Mar 28 08:28:41 1997:

Nutniks?
They had the "Bag of Isz" there. That was cool. Now you can have an Isz
stampeed just like in The Maxx. But what's up with read one?

#21 of 47 by dbassman on Wed Apr 2 00:59:34 1997:

a squished isz?

#22 of 47 by biohazar on Wed Apr 2 08:41:16 1997:

it didn't look squished...

#23 of 47 by bio on Sun Apr 6 00:21:05 1997:

If you want a bag of Isz, I can get it for you for $20 (that's including S&H)

#24 of 47 by otaking on Tue Apr 8 12:07:31 1997:

I just saw pictures of the Manga Spawn action figures yesterday. I'm ordering
a whole set of them. Manga Medieval Spawn looks like a samurai. Manga Curse
looks like a mecha from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Another figure looks like
something out of Mobile Suit Gundam. The Manga Angela reminds me of a purple
gymnist and is the coolest figure of the bunch.

IIIIIIIIISSSSSSSZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!

Skybolt Toys (owned by Lightning Comics) will make their premire in the next
couple of months with their first figure, Hellina. The big news is that they
are also recieved the rights to make figures from your favorite Blanc Noir
comic, Body Bags. Skybolt are making Clownface, Panda (in two outfits), and
unnamed character because my source forgot, and maybe a Gramps action figures.
After Body Bags, Skybolt will make toys from the Tenth, Darkcylde, and Johny
The Homicdal Maniac action figures.

#27 of 47 by otaking on Sat Apr 26 12:20:39 1997:

I've heard that Skybolt Toys also plans on making a line of Creed figures.

I was also surprised when Dynamic Forces announced it's Kabuki Fan Club.
The popular Caliber comic (gotta get that Caliber plug in) has got a club
that will offer exclusive "varient action figures." So look for the Noh
figures soon. I hope they do a Siamese 2-pack.

#28 of 47 by biohazar on Mon Apr 28 07:13:32 1997:

I would like a CreeD figure (even though Lightning made no mention about one
at the Motor City Comic Con). I would LOVE to see McFarlane Toys do it though.
Hey, if they did the Maxx (perfectly) then CreeD should be done by them too.
Consitering the Hellina figure, Skybolt doesn't look that great. At least it
wasn't as bad as the Warior Nun figure which looked like a GIJoe figure...

#29 of 47 by senna on Tue Apr 29 03:09:31 1997:

Hey, GIJoes were some of the best constructed toys ever. You can do
everythign with those. Their style is out of fashion, but they rocked for
usability and composition.

#30 of 47 by otaking on Tue Apr 29 11:54:24 1997:

Do you mean the 70's GI Joes, the 80's GI Joes, GI Joe Extreme, or the new
big GI Joes?

#31 of 47 by pez on Tue Apr 29 20:06:41 1997:

i have a bunch of 80's G.I.Joes and no idea what to do with them..

#32 of 47 by biohazar on Wed Apr 30 13:01:02 1997:

Re 30: I was saying that Warrior Nun looked like the '80s GIJoe... with the
kungku grip.

#33 of 47 by senna on Fri May 2 04:55:04 1997:

80's,t he classic years. I have buckeets of them stitting around doing
nothing. You can give me yours, if you'd like, luke. My friend and I were
always sticklers about it..

Actually, we never bothered with the crap storylines that the GIJoe show came
with.. we invented our own. New planetk , space batles, well defined three
dimensional characters, life death, allegiances, betrayals, and everything
in between. We did absolutely everything except accept what they told us..
if we thought a figure was cool, it was good, period.

One of these days I'm going to make a storyline of it... wouldn't be abad,
actually.

Bill Maus' character Nira X is the next figure from Skybolt. There is also
a variant platinum figure (platinum paint that is) limited to 5,000.

#35 of 47 by otaking on Mon May 5 12:06:19 1997:

Skybolt also plans to do a Pandora figure. Just like the Nira X figure,
they plan to do a platinum variant.

#36 of 47 by biohazar on Wed May 7 05:06:50 1997:

no, no, no, no, Pandora is being made by Avatar Press. And it's a gold
varriant, not platium. Skybolt has nothing to do with it.

#37 of 47 by otaking on Wed May 7 11:58:30 1997:

Oops, my mistake. I didn't realize it until I reread this month's Diamond
catalog.

McFarlane Toys just put out their Monster Playsets 2 weeks ago. My girlfriend
bought the whole set.

Hunchback playset: This set was cool, but difficult to justify the second
figure. The hunchback is great and decently articulated. The executioner
is really cool, but I can't understand why he's the second figure. Also, the
bloody ax looks great, but the executioner's arms weren't designed to hold
it well enough. The little gargoyle was a nice touch.

Werewolf playset: Very cool. The werewolf looks awesome. Steve the victim
is great. His only drawback is that the detachable limbs are hard to attach.

Dracula playset: This set is excellent. The scene is creepiest of the series.
The bat figure has really cool articulated wings. Although Dracula isn't
very articulated, he poses real well.

Frankenstein playset: This is the best set. It has the most parts, mainly
tools for Igor. The removable brain is a fun touch. I love the interchangable
heads. Be careful when you attach the table to the set though. I accidentally
broke the post tha attaches to the table.

All these set are well worth the $10. What they lose in articulation, they
make up for with a second figure and props. All the figures stand easily on
their own too (If only they could do that with all the Spawn toys). Since
the card said "Series One", I'm looking forward to more of these playsets
next year.

#39 of 47 by biohazar on Fri May 23 18:32:09 1997:

Wow! You are lucky Mike... I wish I had the whole set. Hell I wish I could
even buy one.
