I will be singing in a pre-Valentines fundraising concert for Arbor Opera Theater on Thursday, February 10, at 7:30 PM. The venue is the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1500 Scio Church Rd., in Ann Arbor. There will be several other singers as well, and we will be singing a selection of romantic Broadway and musical theater pieces. A selection of luscious desserts will be included with admission, which is $15.
You may not read this till it's all over, but good luck anyhow!
Do they say "break a leg" in your business?
Probably it's "bust a lung."
Heh.
Plymouth Community Band is giving a concert this Friday, February 11, 8pm at the Canton High School "Little Theatre". http://www.geocities.com/plycomband
I'll be singing duets with Matt Watroba in Madison Hts Wed Feb 16 and in

Greenwood Cafe, I'd guess, it being a Friday night.
would have been nice but caregiver never showed - massive systematic failure on their part. missed a *lot* of friday stuff, dammit! trust is such a fragile entity.
I'll be appearing again as a performer at the Scott Joplin Festival in Sedalia, Missouri. Festival dates are June 2-5. I'll find out my exact playing schedule at a later date.
Good luck, Remmers!
Unlucky!
I'll sing in Matt Watroba's Jukebox Folk Quartet at Green Wood on Fri, Apr 15. Also, Matt and I will open for Don White there on May 6.
kewl remmers - nice seeing you ( a sighting!) at raisin river ....
that would be the River Raisin...
And a fine concert it was too! I'm giving a talk on RSS to the EMU Computer Science Club on Wednesday. More of an "at lectern" than "on stage" event, I suppose.
re #16 ... oops! my bad ... re #17 .. aacs had an amazing presentatoin on rss recntly .. uhhh, remmers. you were there i think .. ???
was caspre's mom there ?
Re #18: Yep, I was there. The AACS presentation was very NET-centric, which mine won't be. I'll focus on some of the more creative recent applications of RSS such as podcasting and folksonimy support. You can find out what concert I'll be playing in at the Scott Joplin Festival the same way I just did, by looking at this page: http://www.scottjoplin.org/festival.htm
A slideshow of my RSS presentation is at <http://jremmers.org/RSS/>. (MS Internet Explorer messes up the formatting a bit, so for best results view it in a decent browser.)
Works OK in Netscape 7.2. Reminds me of a PowerPoint program. I'm not sure, though, what RSS is doing differently than any web page with links.
Re. 21: Yeah, the fonts are a little squished together, but still readable. I've been hearing the term "wiki" more and more, but never heard what that is.
Re resp:22: The key difference is that RSS is designed to be read by programs and aggregated into lists of items, often from different pages. For example, I have an RSS reader that pulls feeds from several security websites and provides a news ticker of their headlines on my desktop. Without it, I'd have to visit each site in turn to find out what's new. Another use for RSS is as a syndication service. One web page can use it to automatically pull in articles from another, much like newspapers pull in stories from a wire service. Thanks for the article, remmers. I was familiar with most of it, but I was still unclear on what "podcasting" was all about.
Re resp:23: A wiki is just a document that can be freely edited by anyone. The biggest example I'm aware of is the Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page. Anyone can sign up and add or edit an article. One key feature is the ability for the document to be reverted to a previous version, which makes it quick and easy for people to undo defacements and other malicious activity. I'm not too impressed by the Wikipedia itself, but wikis do seem like an excellent way to maintain things like software FAQs.
Re #22: The S5 system I used to construct the slideshow is pretty cool; open source, free, and does its thing using only HTML, CSS, and Javascript. So it works in just about any 21st century graphical web browser. Easy to construct slides too. Downloads and documentation are at http://meyerweb.com .
(By the way, speaking of RSS - there's is a nice, succinct explanation of what RSS is and what it can do for you on - of all places - the website of the Burpee Seed Company, which just started offering RSS feeds. Happy gardening!) http://www.burpee.com/jump.jsp?itemID=744&itemType=CONTENT_ARTICLE&apage=1

Jeremy is Joe.
The Vocal Arts Ensemble presents a concert this Tuesday evening, March 15, at 7:30 PM, at the First Congregational Church (at the corner of State and William Streets). The selections are all Irish or Irish inspired, in honor of St. Patrick's Day. I will be singing two solo songs by Arnold Bax, "To Eire," and "The Fairies." Both are very cool songs. Admission is $10.
Received my playing schedule for the Scott Joplin Festival:
Thu June 2, 11:00am Kickoff Concert - tribute to Joseph Lamb
Thu June 2, 1:20-1:40pm Solo set, Stark Pavilion (free)
Fri June 3, 12:20-12:40pm Solo set, Maple Leaf Park (free)
Sat June 4, 12:20-12:40pm Solo set, Maple Leaf Park (free)
Sun June 5, 10:20-10:40am Solo set, Best Western (farewell brunch)
So in the (probably unlikely) event that you're anywhere near Sedalia,
drop by and have a listen. Great music, many fine musicians, and the
outdoor events are free!
