This has to be the first Batman movie I have ever liked enough to buy. Christian Bale portrays the caped crusader better than any of his predecessors. He is complicated, imperfect, and his motivations questionable. The movie adds a bit of realism to the fantasy that is Batman. There is more focus on the technology (not much, but more than before), and better explainations on where Batman comes from. I would have liked to have seen the League of Shadows as a sort of secret society that is a little less malevolent. Obviously this is not the case since this movie tries to follow the comic books.

I love this movie. We will be buying it too.
It was okay (saw it in a theater), but once is enough. My exposure to Batman was the 1950s comics with the somewhat crude artwork, so anything really high-tech and high budget doesn't seem like the "real" Batman to me. Give me the 1942 serial. Saw a few minutes of "Batman and Robin" on cable the other day. Boy did that stink. I agree that "Batman Begins" was better.
I'll be endlessly ribbed about this, but imo the only Batman worth seeing is the one with Adam West. The rest take themselves far too seriously.
The Adam West Bataman was thoroughly and deliberately campy. Amusing for a while, eventually got old.
