define sexchat?
if it's flirting, happens all the time
if it's people talking about sex...well then..
if it's cybersex, no clue. people don't do it in the open, being
that it's usually a personal thing, and they don't rag about it
this isn't high school, getting cyberlaided isn't this big deal.
it's kinda sad, but kinda not, and really, it's all up to the individutal
but it's really no one's buisness, and people who don't approve or
whom it bugs shouldn't be subjected to it, so....much like in real life,
it all goes on behind closed doors.

i think the answer to that is "if you have to ask, you're not ready"

Didn't it used to be a lot more popular when grex wasn't so antiquated, and
your average user might have had Netscape 2.0 if they were lucky? :)  I don't
know what the online singles scne does that much anymore, but programs like
AIM and ICQ have made large gathering places like this unecessary--once you
meet the person, you can talk to them on an individual basis.

Though online dating services are quite popular, and occasionally even
successful ("I was just doing it as a joke," the successful ones always say).
I suppose if the connected couple wants to be raunchy, they can exchange lewd
photographs, but then they would probably have met on a site that specifically
marketed itself to that kind of audience anyway.

The Net is so diverse these days that accidently crossing paths with people
who participate in radically different behaviors relative to the internet is
a lot less likely than it used to be.  We don't need to gather here on grex,
we can just go to our favorite websites or blogger hosts or posting boards
and talk with the people with whom we have the most in common.  

There also seem to be a lot fewer dating couples on Grex.  Back when there
were local pockets of real-life friends who all grexed (the McKendree folks,
the IAA folks, etc), I think we had more sexual intrigue.  Now, the only
clique of grexers who hang out in real life seems to be the Grexwalk crowd,
and most of them are married.  

I miss those days.  Party was always FULL of college students.  I wonder how
some of them are doing, particularly the McKendree crowd.  I talk to nephi
on occasion, but that's it.

Blame AIM and cell phone messaging, I guess.

        ... but not ...

        After thinking about it for a minute, I think that the set that was
interested in dating people who were online (whom I didn't think I would be
one of, until running into someone at a GNO, but, to be fair, she was a
roommate of several people who I was already friends with and may well have
met independently) and the set who're interested in "sexchat" don't overlap
much.  Especially if you consider people who've met each other while looking
to date who "sexchat" with each other as different than people who don't
really seem to be looking to date at all - I guess it's a form of online
one-night stand.

        Nonetheless, the Grex dating pool wasn't ever exactly that large, nor
was it the greatest place to meet good people, so I wouldn't mourn over it,
as attactive as the idea of being able to actually talk to someone before
making any effort is, at times.

You should put more energy into knowing I'm not interested.

        Maybe the name of the conference being "sex" confuses 'em ...
