Anyone remember the fastest cars 0-60 and 1/4 mile in the glory days of horsepower? Anyone remember the 0-100-0 time of the AC Cobra?

Which glory days?
I have a friend who built one recently from a kit. 15 seconds?
1/4 mile times were in the mid 12's for the Cobra, Hemi-powered Mopars with slicks
At a guess, I would say that the glory days of horsepower began around 1955 and ended rather abruptly around 1975. With the 60's being the heyday.
The beginnings of the power race was 50 or 51 olds with the rocket v8. The Chrysler 300 in 55 was truly awesome with a 3-speed overdrive and non- synchro first gear. I recall the 427 cobra at 0-100-0 in 9.8 seconds whereas the current viper is 0-100 in 12 seconds. An astonishing car right now is the Mitsubishi 3000 gt. I think this model has 1.6 L (100 cubic inches) but about 240 horsepower, giving it the title of the highest specific output sold in the US.
Ah. So all of the things people did to get more HP out of model T's don't count. Ok.
Hey, they did great things there also, but I don't know much about what they did. I did hear of "Frontenac Heads" for the model T, and I think that was a multi valve overhead cam, but I have never see such a set-up. I was told that the engine had two covers in sort of a "v" configuration. Supposedly quite a sophisticated (& fast) modification.
I just read in an automotive magazine that Ford is coming out with two hot rod mustangs offered through Ford MotorSports. The first was described as an "all aluminum block side-oiler 427, with a 0-60 time of 3.8 sec" in the $50K range. The second was an all aluminum block 429 hemi - no performance and no price listed. They said they would be offered through Ford dealers at about 500 copies per year. Oh yeah, the 427 had a 230 mph speedo and was "capable of over 200 mph." Just what you need for the ride home.
