I avoided them.

I read them avidly. I loved girls taking their lives in their own hands.
I also was the only girl with 7 boy cousins. Loved the stories.

I loved 'Little Women,' but thought that the "sequels" never matched it.

I think it was the titles; might have been the covers.

When I was around 10, my two best friends and I would play "Little
Women" for HOURS. I was always Meg and have always really identified
with that character. There are so many really positive qualities about
her. Anna was always Jo and Jenny was always Amy. We usually played out
parts of the book or made up stuff after Beth died but sometimes when
Jenny's sister was bugging us, we would re-enact the very very dramatic
sick room and death scene for 15-20 minutes and then we would tell
Jenny's sister to beat it because "BETH IS DEAD NOW!" There was some
irony in that because the three of us spent so much time celebrating
sisterly love while not being so nice to our real sisters :)

That book really sparked an interest in me for mid 19th century life
and I spent a lot of time in the school's library reading about the
history of the era. It inspired me to learn a lot and that is worth
quite a bit.

I haven't actually read any of the books save Little Women. Don't know
why, but Amy was my favorite.

Yeah, I thought Amy was kind of bratty at first and she kind of was
but she was also just a kid. She grows up and turns into a very kind
woman later on.

Loved it! I also liked Little Men, however i didn't like Jo's Boys and
Good Wives as much. I found them to be too sentimental and emotional.
