I haven't seen anything lately or I'd start things out. On my list of things to do though is to see Age of Innocence. Anyone catch it yet?
I saw "The Wrong Man" with Vera Miles and Henry Fonda the other night. Excellent true story of mistaken identity of a man who looked like someone who robbed an insurance office. What I found the most intruiging was the police procedures of the pre-miranda era. Kinda makes you glad to live in the post-Miranda era.
forgot to mention two things: 4 stars and it was directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

Looked at Miami Vice does "Last of the Mohicans" for the fifth time. Noticed that beyond the great photography (as usual) and the neat scenes was an underlying racist theme that persists from the original James Fenimore Cooper novel. You know what I'm talking about? You *know* what I'm talking about? Let me tell you what I'm talking about. Daniel Day Lewis is the *white* *adopted* son of Chink-donoyournamewhatever. (Played by (buy) Russel Means of the AIM fame - aka FBI - Wounded KNee-II - aka it doesn't get any better than the first time). His *natural* son just can't find a *red* babe good enough and falls for the *white* chick younger sister of the *adopted* *white* brother's love interest. Oh, yeaaahhhh. Muc Wah, (obviously a Vietnamese name and refers to the Burt Lancaster movie that was released under a different name other that the original novel _Incident at Muc Wah_) just so happens is an adopted and released memeber of a tribe other than the Hurons (obviously a reference to the Ann Arbor High School football team). Anyway, Chink-whatever's natural son just can't get enough of that white chick and fights the NVA terrorist over her and dies. SHe on the other hand unable to put up with chink-dick after red-shlong jumps off a cliff. Russell (I still don't know how Russ Cage managed this) Means saves the day and they all hike off after having a touching and meaningless scene on a mountaintop. I give it about a 2.
Rented "Groundhog Day" last night. Great fun if you like Bill Murray. No great meaning, just a lot of fun. The premise is that a certain day recurs over and over and how the main character takes advantage of it. The consequences were only somewhat predictable.
I went to showcase to see the sneak preview of "Cool Runnings" that was showing with "Undercover Blues." The only thing missing from "Cool Runnings" was Chappin and McBean's "Jamacain Bobsled Team" song. I missed all those cracks about Ganja. "Undercover Blues" was hillarious.
Kalifornia was a great movie.
Saw Striking Distance with Bruce Willis. It's good, not a Diehard, but still good. I'd give it a B+.
Kalifornia was a great movie.
(Improves with every viewing, eh Craig? :-)
(craig has ulterior motives where Kalifornia is concerned.....)
Oh, so we GRADE movies now?!
Re #7 I gotta see Cool Runnings.....Looks so funny.
Saw "Hot Shots! Part Deux" tonight. Pretty funny, if you like humor of the "Naked Gun"/"Police Squad" flavor. Just don't expect a serious plot... B+.
It is, Sky. It is.
Saw "True Romance" finally. A solid "B". Fun, interesting and *great* dialogue, but parts were too reminiscent of "Reservior Dogs" to be as original as that was.
Saw UnderCover Blues with Dennis Quaid and Kathleen Turner! Every funny! It's Nick and Nora Charles with a baby instead of a dog. Death is very funny as comic relief. I give it an A on the zany scale, and a B on the normal scale.
Some of the last Thin man movies had both baby and dog. Saw Samsom and Delilah on the tube the other nite. I gave it 3.5 stars while Lenny Maltin gave it 3. However Hedy Lamarr is/was a fox to the nth degree. I'd also like to comment that Angela (murder she wrote) was also in it. Victor Mature played a good role as well. That woman (delilah) was pure evil. Samson should have given her a wide berth!
yeah, but then there wouldn't have been much point to the movie eh?
RE: 19 That's *Headly*!
re 20: this is true. I guess the point to the story of Samson and Delilah was a lesson to man as how NOT to behave with conniving women. Unless I am missing some bigger lesson from that story. re 21: heh.
My wife and I went to see "The Firm" last week. It was a reasonably good film, although my wife said that it did not really follow the book, especially at the end. I'd give it a B-.
Except for the beating up of the Quaker Oats Man, I agree. On the point of the old fogy it gets an A.
Demolition Man -- Of course you know to expect a lot of violence, yet in
retrospect, the movie was not gory at all.
Interesting premise, and interesting to see what the future was like.
And there's a very cute woman prominently featured, too!
In MTV's countdown to demolition, she said she was so excited about blowing up the building that she was going to wet her pants.
For Love or Money -- nice little romance/comedy. Michael J Fox is good. The plot's a little weak and predictable, but enjoyable nonetheless. If you want to laugh and not think a whole lot, this one's for you! B
Blood Type B...

(Finally figured out how to get to the editor in this thing.) If you're looking for a good foreign film, I can heartily recommend "Kagemusha" by Kurosawa. The film takes place in the years 1571 to 1575. A theif is saved from execution by the brother of the local warlord, because he is the exact double of the lord. One of the favorite tactics of this lord (Shingin) was to have his brother (a close resemblance but not exact) double as him, so he would appear in two places at once. The brother feels the theif, if properly trained, could help further confuse the opposing warlords. When Shingin dies from a fatal wound, he feels that the only way to keep the enemie clans from destroying his, is to make them think he is still alive. So his last request is that the nobles are to not let anyone know that he is dead for three years. Since the brother cannot possibly pose as his double for the full three years with out raising suspicion, the theif is given the role fulltime. The rest of the film covers how the theif moves from one incident to the next avoiding detection, feeling the oppresive weight of his role, and eventually losing his identity to that of the dead lord. Very tragic ending. (I was brought to tears by it.) Japanese with subtitles. Stunning photography and scenery. Running time: 2 hours 40 minutes. Rating: * * * * *
Oh good. Filthy and Raunchy...
I just saw Demolition Man and it sucked, plain and simple. The woman was cute, except cuteness in movies is not a rare commodity.
Cool. Huh Huh Huh. (Hjelp! I'm possessed by Beavis and Butthead! Argh!)
Jemmie Wang, you are fined one credit for a violation of the written morality code...
"Short Cuts" Robert Altman's latest film is brilliant. He has woven together a fascinating story of twenty-some loosely connected characters into a disturbing look at coping in today's society. The cast plays with that fine lines dividing good mental hygiene and psychosis. Three days after seeing this movie I'm still thinking about it. Don't miss it.
Thanks, Mary. I'll see it when it comes back and the price goes down.
Went to see The Nightmare Before Christmas. A+! EXCELLENT! It's as wowing as Who Killed Roger Rabbit was for its animation. It's great stuff! It's probably too much for kids under 6 or 7 tho.
Uh, wasn't that "Who *framed* Roger Rabbit"? I mean, we can't have a sequel or anything, if they killed the poor guy... ;-)
