Does Speed Racer count as Japanimation?

#2 of 30 by bad on Tue Jan 21 02:15:09 1992:

I'm certainly a fan, albeit an uneducated one with nothing to trade.
I do have two VCR's, though...

I have only been collecting manga/anime for a year or two and have few
tapes. Heres the few movies I do have:
Dangaio part 1 30mins
Appleseed
Ranma 1/2 #1-#15
Dirty Pair (Love is Russian Roulette, Clear Doss, Love ignites Woman)
Outlanders
Tokegami
Impressions of Europa
Astalot

Only Dangaio, Outlanders, and Dirty pair are sub-titled though.
If you REALLY want some titles, join the Michigan Anime Club. Details
can be gotten at any Motor City Comic Con in Dearborn. They hold the
convention every 3-6 months. Last was in march... They show many
movies during the two days the convention is held. There are also several
dealers there that sell tapes. 15-30$ apiece. (Thats why I only have a
couple. Besides, my friend bought half that I do have.. No copyrights
in the States...)

Neo Tokyo & Silent Mobius, they're running through the end of the year.

I'm glad to see a little interest in Anime here. I'm a big fan, and am
trying to catch as much as possible. Anyone interested in buying tapes
please let me know, because a friend of mine buys direct from distributers
and offers the best prices you'll find in the country, from what I can tell,
and he's in AA.
As far as anyone trying to get into it, my first two suggestions
are still my favorites, and many will agree with them. My all time favorite
is Kinagure Orange Road, available as 4 OAV (Original Animation Video {ie,
direct to tape}) and a feature length movie, as well as the 48 television
episodes (1/2 hour each). KOR is pretty much an anime soap opera, based
around 3 high school students, two female and one male, with the added
bonus that Kyosuke (the guy) is an ESPer. The stories are great and the
animation is top notch. I am truely in love with this series. The OAV's and
the movie are available for rental at Video Watch and Blockbuster locations
throughout the area. I have (albeit poor) copies of the TV shows from a
fan group in Canada. I'd be more than happy to lend them out.
The second is a MUST SEE FOR ANYONE WHO LIKES ANIMATION OR HAS
ANY INTEREST IN THE CYBERPUNK GENRE. The Bubblegum Crisis and Bubblegum
Crash series (8 episodes and 3 ep., res.) are GREAT! They are truly
classic art forms, with incredible animation and killer stories. They
are about the Knight Sabres, a band of 4 women vigilanties in MegaTokyo
in 2032 AD. Words cannot describe the BGC series. Get out and rent it NOW!
I've got plenty of other suggesstions, so let me know.
                        Roger

The bubble gum stuff is exceptionally good as well as The Knight Sabers. My
personal favorite Anime flick is ether Project A-ko or Robot Carnival

#11 of 30 by ecl on Sun Jul 4 06:42:08 1993:

I've only seen the first 2 or 3 BubbleGum Crisis episodes.
and I wish they would explain more about those Damn Boomer Robots

I liked Project A-Ko, even though it was very strange.

I still haven't seen all of Robot Carnival, I hope the Sci-Fi channel
shows it again.

#12 of 30 by shaymu on Sun Nov 28 21:24:20 1993:

I myself am a big fan of Lum and Tank Police

#13 of 30 by skeez on Thu Jan 27 01:29:34 1994:

I love Akira, that movie is ass-kickingly good. I liked only one of the 9 total
clips on it. "A tale of two robots" is wonderful. Very nice.
Very funny.
I only have two videos, Akira & Robot Carnival.

#16 of 30 by carson on Tue Feb 21 07:06:18 1995:

I haven't been to Animania in a long time.

#17 of 30 by hendra on Fri Aug 11 14:25:29 1995:

I am a fan of anime. I love Macross, especially Macross: Ai Oboeteimasuka.
I also watch Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory OVA, Saint Seiya, Shulato, Patlabor
and other animes (can't write it all here, cause it would take up a lot of
space). Contact me and we could trade informations about anime.

#18 of 30 by hannibal on Thu Mar 21 03:18:41 1996:

Geez...been a long time since anyone has talked in here. Anyways, I'm a fan
too. My bro' has all of the Robotech series (American Version from TV) on
tape, mainly bought. I also have Macross II: The Movie. I enjoy watching
all of them and try to watch them at least once a year since Robotech is, I
believe, like 82 episodes, and that wasn't even totally finished since they
were making Robotech II: The Sentinels, but production was stopped since
television decided that they weren't going to play them. So all that remains
of that is 4 unfinished episodes which, if the Robotech II series would've
been completed, would've showed the transition between Robotech the First
Generation and Robotech: Southern Cross. Oh well...the four unfinished
episodes are kinda weird, though, since it was made by a different company
I think. People's voices are different and stuff.

I'm now an addict.

I like Bugglegum Crisis, and most of the stuff shown at Animania. My big
favorite that got me hooked in is "Please Save Our Earth", which is
practically impossible to figure out completely, but very stylish and cool
to watch.

goodbye

#21 of 30 by hannibal on Sat May 18 16:54:40 1996:

Heh..I've never seen the Bubblegum Crisis, but heard good things about it.
Just how good is it?

#22 of 30 by scott on Sat May 18 23:04:12 1996:

Pretty good. I've only seen the first one, but they do lots of music
under/inside the action (like Miami Vice, although I didn't like that show
much). Good violence, stylish episodes. Only thing I like in amine that
isnt' there is the "ancient legend" aspect found in a fair amount of anime.

#23 of 30 by scuzzobe on Sun Jul 7 16:48:16 1996:

Anime is the best. I dunno I started watching it on the Sci-Fi channel on
Saturdays. My faverites would HAVE to be Tank Police and Project Ako: Batles
Vs. 1 and 2.

I also heard that there are like 12 or 13 different Ako movies...does anyone
know where I could find them, I mean, I am gonna bne out of here REAL quick
though??

#24 of 30 by scott on Sun Jul 7 18:44:23 1996:

The thing I hate about SciFi Channel is that they show dubbed version. The
subtitled versions are much cooler.

#25 of 30 by scuzzobe on Mon Jul 8 03:20:00 1996:

Yeah? I didn't know, I am just getting into it in a way, I have watched it
a long time, but now I am REALLY into it. and now I am moving to Georgia and
I don't think I can get the Sci-fi channel :( bummer huh? well, this is my
last response cause I am off to Georgia for the rest of my stink'in life!
unless, I return....hehehehe, high;y doubt it thoguh

I know this item hasn't seen some action for a while, but there is a new item
in the comic confer that we are talking about the variest aspects of Manga.
If you like Anime you might just want to check it out. Just type "join comics"
and read item 35.

#27 of 30 by orinoco on Sat Jan 3 04:00:55 1998:

Oh, I'm a big - if fairly recent - fan of anime. Particularly 'vision of
Escaflowne' and 'the Irresponsible Captain Tyler', but I'll watch more or less
anything. Haven't seen much in the way of manga, but I'll have to take a look
anyway...

#28 of 30 by otaking on Fri Dec 3 19:15:23 1999:

I love anime. In fact, I'm going to see Princess Mononoke again tonight.

Tomorrow is the monthly Animania meeting in the MLB building at U of M. It
runs from 4PM to midnight. There's a lot of great programming, especially a
great romantic comedy from Studio Gainax called His and Her Circumstances.
It's a great anime from the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion. I've only seen
two episodes and am already in love with the series.

Hi, i've enjoyed Ghost in the shell very much, but mostly with subtitles.
Great music. Cought myself humming it for days after i saw the movie.
Lately they show Dragonball Z, which might/might not be anime, but it sure
kicks a*# :-)
