Jim Carrey: Is he over doing it with corny movies?

yes. nuff said.
Define "over-doing". He's making orders-of-magnitude more money than I am, so he must be doing something right...
Apples and oranges. Lots of people overdo stuff and make very little money at it. I've seen a couple of his movies. None of his TV work. Innumerable trailers for movies of his I haven't seen. Seems to be a talented guy. Maybe he'll do something great someday.
I saw the Ads for _Ace Ventura_ and avoided it. It looked stupid. I hate movies about stupid people doing stupid things. Jerry lewis and the 3 stooges make me want to retch. OTOH, I liked _Mask_. But I'm a lover of Warner Brother's cartoons and _Mask_ was just a big cartoon with live actors. I didn't go expecting Shakespeare and I didn't get Shakespeare, but that's ok, I got alot of laughs even though I saw most of the jokes coming. So the jury is still out on Cary as far as I'm concerned. I'm hoping he does more *clever* humor rather than slapstick humor.
Judging from the audience reaction to Batman and the clip from the new Ace Ventura movie, Jim Carrey is delivering exactly what the average American wants to see. The fact that I find the one character he portrays to be tired and overdone doesn't change the fact that millions of people will pay to see it over and over again. Until the audience grows weary, we will probably not learn if Carrey possesses any range as an actor. But at $7 million per picture, why mess with what obviously works?
If you did or didn't like Ace Ventura, they are coming out with another one. I also hear that there will be a sequel to "The Mask." I think that he does have his times of being funny, and he's making lots of money. But seeing him as a serious character wouldn't fit him at all.
Several years ago, before he had any major movies out,I saw him in a made for TV movie about a family that, on the surface, looked like the "american ideal". Under the surface though it was falling apart. Jim Carey played the family closet alcohlic, not a funny role at all. He did a great job wiht a very serious role. I was very suprised.
Hey whateverU all may say the movie Ace Ventura is one time full entertainment. Jim has made awsome disguises. Though the movie does'nt haveany chalked outstory it is very well compiled. Espesially the scene of the shadow play is of high exuberance.
Flash fwd not quite 10 years... Well, he's done a lot since those stupid Ace movies. I really liked the Truman Show and The Majestic. His god movie seemed like a bad episode of the Twilight Zone.
Bruce Almighty? Yeah... He tends to be a bit over the top for my tastes, but when he's reined in I like him a lot. Like in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
