I'm curious which software is most popular for the amiga. So far I haven't found that there is anything my PC can do that Amiga can't, though I have yet to see a word processor/dtp application that can match my MSWord 6.0. The software *I* use most often is Term. Toaster 4000 sur is seductive, though. It has gorgeous/hilarious new wipes.

Never having used MSWord 6 I can't make any comparisons to Amiga software. For word processing and simple DTP I use Final Writer (I've got Pro-Draw and Pro-Page if I ever need to do anything really complicated) I've used both NComm and Term and am undecided about which I like more. For most of the drawing I do I made the jump and use Brilliance 2.0 now insteda of DPaint.
I use Final Writer also. Just got the Release 3 upgrade, but haven't had the chance to discover what the changes are, except for the additional drawing tools. PageStream v 2 is what I use for more complicated stuff, although I find there's very little I need to do on a regular basis that requires more than Final Writer. I've got WordWorth 3.1 on order. I'll probably enter a review of it here after I've had a chance to check it out. I frequently use Brilliance 2.0 on the A4000, but DPaint is still my first choice on non-AGA machines. DPaint is also what I turn to when I want to do text. In fact, that's probably my only gripe with Brilliance -- having to enter text a line at a time, as a brush, rather than being able to type it directly to the screen the way DPaint does it. I'm using Term 4.2 right now. In fact, I just installed it about 30 minutes ago after unpacking it from the 4-disc Aminet CD-ROM I just got the other day. So far, it seems pretty slick.
As a longtime (professional) Microsoft Word user, I'm having trouble finding a way to make a table in any of the Amiga word processors/ page layout programs. Does anyone know of a not terribly painful way to do that? [I just know I've missed something terribly obvious.]
I use Final Copy for general word processing and the venerable Prowrite for writing video scrts. (It's the only WP that can do non-snaking collumns As far as doing tables, what kindsI usually do it the old fashioned way--with tab stops. Is that a painful way? How does Word do it? I have a friend who says that Word is very buggy if you start trying to do complicated stuff like automatic tables of contents and indecies.
Hmmmm yes, Tabs is the painful way. In word I create a table with x columns nd y rows, and then I can fidget the layout of the whole table with one stroke of the moise. Word can be buggy -- it depends on whether you get the patches as they're released. :) And always remember to close Windows every 2 hours and reopen it to continue working. It'll hold the memory error to a minimum! (Ah, to have Word for the Amiga and get away from Windows.)
Wordworth 3.1 seems to have the most painless method for creating tables. After selecting the table object, simply drag out a box with the mouse. The box will contain as many rows and columns as will fit in the dragged out box, using the default font. Additional rows or columns will be added if you drag the table box to a larger size, or if you choose a smaller font as your default before creating the table. It will also allow you to calculate cells in a table using four different methods. "Total" sums contents of cells, "Average" calculates the average of cells, "Minimum" calculates the minimum value of cells, "Maximum" calculates the maximum value of cells.
Now *that* would be useful!
