A great place to try out new games, see what's new, buy stuff, find out how to get published, etc. Some of our local gaming conventions: RadCon www.radcon.org NWRE (NorthWest Regional Event, also sometimes called NoWheRe) Norwescon So what gets you going about cons? What do you like/dislike, where do you go, how do you get ready, what panels to you go to, is one coming up? etc.

Honestly, the only con I've gone to is Con on the River, in Winona, MN. Reason: Winona State University was where I really got into a college gaming group, in this case called RPSIG (Role Playing Special Interest Group). CotR has only recently has panels, and I've missed it a few times due to lodging/travel schedule conflicts. In general I get ready by booking my tickets and hotel reservations, then save packing until a couple days before I go. Since the events I've gone to so far are weekend events, I usually pack the morning before I go. I have some interest in attending Gen Con.
Has anyone here ever attended the Con put on at UMich in November? I've seen notices, but have never attended.
Another question: costuming at conventions. Do you go to cons that feature costume contests or the like? A friend of mine made an anime costume that won Best Costume at RadCon 3B? in 2002... if I can manage to get her webpage link to it I'll post it here.
Con on the River does have a costume contest IIRC. As for UCon, I've thought about it, and then thought about how hard it would be to park anywhere near the Union when it was going on.
