There was a magnitude 5.3 earthquake in Osaka, Japan at 7:58 a.m. local time. It was the worst earthquake we've had in this area since the Awaji Earthquake in 1995. There is scattered damage, but so far no reports of anything major. At our house, it shook enough to knock some books off a shelf, but no damage. It was plenty frightening for a few seconds, though. Area trains are stopped, so I'm enjoying an extended weekend at home.

Glad you're ok
Thanks. The last report I heard there were four deaths, several hundred injured, damage to older buildings near the epicenter, scattered power and water outages, and a few fires, but all-in-all we are lucky to have dodged a potentially much larger bullet.
